Guest guest
Hi. I had Le Fort I also and BSSO and genio on January 17 and my nose is very different than before surgery. It is wider at the bottom and the nostrils are flared looking and my nose is now crooked on the bottom like it swings to the left. I have a tiny bit of swelling left on my lefcheek but I think my nose will now be this way. I assume it is from having my jaw moved up and maybe from the plates/screws being right up against the side of my nose?? Not too happy with it but I did lose the bump on my nose so my jewish nose doesn't look as big just strange and wide now at the bottom plus crooked. I already had a septoplasty in Dec 2003 so I really doubt I will have my nose corrected ever as the pain from the septo was enough to deter me from ever having work done on my nose again. > Hi everyone - I'm about a week post op and am doing ok except that > now some of the swelling is gone I'm pretty much sure that my nose is > permanently tipped up now. Guest guest
i had my nose redone when i was 17 years old and i can say for a fact that it was at least 6 months before it started to look right to me. I was happy with the results immediately but it always seemed a little tipped up for my taste. I know you've heard this over and over again but it really takes 6 months to a year for all swelling to go down so try to be patient. I just had an upper leforte 3 days ago and low and behold my little miss piggy nose has come back. My doctor warned me about this but I am willing to bet that in a couple of months when the swelling goes down the tipping up will look less severe. try massaging your nose and the area around it gently to get some of that feeling back. you're really only 1 week post op so in my opinion it's to early on to decide whether you want to go through and have a nose job. of course, see what your doctor has to say. soryiacher - sorry to hear about the painful septoplasty. it was my understanding that this was a relatively painless procedure to go through but i guess not. my deviated septum unfortunately seems to have grown back since i had my nose redone (and the septum was corrected). My ENT advised me to get the septoplasty prior to surgery but I refused to. Now that I hear about your experience I'm glad i did. > > Hi everyone - I'm about a week post op and am doing ok except that > > now some of the swelling is gone I'm pretty much sure that my nose is > > permanently tipped up now. Guest guest
ach! don't say that!!! as some of you may know I'm having upper jaw surgery and a septoplasty, a turbindectimy(sp?) and rhinoplasty all at the same time this tuesday June 14. And I knew it'd be the nose that would do me in pain wise!! I'm in for a rough go of it aren't I? arrrgh! Guest guest
You might as well get it all fixed in one shot though!!! And I will be right with you since we have surgery the same day! What time is yours scheduled for?? Mine is at 7:30, so I have to get there at 5:30. ~~ > > > Hi everyone - I'm about a week post op and am doing ok except > that > > > now some of the swelling is gone I'm pretty much sure that my > nose is > > > permanently tipped up now. Guest guest
Hi Yiew I am two days out of just having had a septoplasty here in the UK. I had bi-max in April of last year and like you my nose looked as if it had taken a dive to the left straight afterwards. Once the swelling had gone down it was still bent. The surgeon agreed early on that the septum had deviated and he would correct it. I am very pleased with the result and compared to the original jaw surgery the pain level is really minimal - more just like a stinging where they have cut and stitched and the tip of my nose is too tender to touch. My nose is still bleeding but down to a small ooze and its still very blocked. The surgeon said the op wouldn't be a big deal and he was right really. Despite warnings from the registrar who checked me in, of packs left up my nose for 24 hours or more, a white plaster mould over my nose and a couple of black eyes and bruising - I have none of these! Packs were removed painlessly in recovery. Sue (UK)
Guest guest
Steph, I can't speak for the septoplasty but when I had my nose redone I was in no pain whatsoever. My jaw is hurting more than my nose ever did. My father had a septoplasty and was in and out of the hospital in no time and complained of no pain. However, as this board as shown, different people can have different experiences. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll fall in the pain-free nose category. Plus I'm sure your doctor will provide you with adequate pain killers:-) Sara > > > Hi everyone - I'm about a week post op and am doing ok except > that > > > now some of the swelling is gone I'm pretty much sure that my > nose is > > > permanently tipped up now. Guest guest
goodness Yiew, after having lived in the UK for 7 years I am all too familiar with the NHS and I guess you're right, you might as well get in line for a consultation now. Then by the time they finally get to your case you can evaluate whether to cancel the appointment because hopefully you're happy with the end result or whether to go in and see what they have to say. And yes, on the plus side it is all free! Guest guest
Hi again Yiew I realised it wasn't quite right as soon as the ballooning of my face came down, probably after a couple of weeks. I was having an overbite corrected so lower forward and upper up. I have to say after the septoplasty I woke in recovery with fairly little pain and was very surprised then then said they would remove the packs - I had been most scared of that - as I said they were painless to remove - there was no bleeding and I could almost breathe freely. I spoke too soon though because as soon as I had something to eat that was when the bleeding started - not gushing - but they did say they would be most surprised if there was no bleeding at all! The worst thing of it all is not being able to blow your nose - the temptation is enormous and also my eyes hurt - I think that is an effect of the anaesthetic. Sue (UK) > Hi Sue, > > That's really good news! How long after April last year did you come to the conclusion that it would need correction? Just out of interest, which way was your upper jaw moved? You're really lucky with those packs - I had mine out morning after the op and I gushed straight away - so I had another set stuck up there and left for 48 hrs!! > ----- Original Message -----
Guest guest
I had major polyp removal and a leforte 1. I would say with the leforte you are kinda numb from the cheecks to the lips so I don't think its going to be painful, but the mucous is a pain. Guest guest
Hey buddy! I'm going in at 7:30 and have to check in at 5:30 too so we'll be going at this at the same time!! It'll be a race to see who feels well enough to check back in with the group first!) (I'm not planning to take my laptop to the hospital so it may be Thursday or Friday before I post...) So....are you as nervous as I am??? > > > > Hi everyone - I'm about a week post op and am doing ok except > > that > > > > now some of the swelling is gone I'm pretty much sure that my > > nose is > > > > permanently tipped up now. Guest guest
Ahhh yes....pain killers....a girl's best friend.....Seriously though, the pain is the part I'm the most worried about...so thanks for the info! I hope I cruise through this rather event free. And if i can get through this pain killer free I would truely be grateful to the gods! My husband had surgery of his own yesterday (exploratory on his hand) and the poor guy is in extreme pain. Oh won't we make quite the pair!
