Guest guest
I'm 18 days post-op, and had an appointment today with my surgeon. Two of my teeth are officially damaged from the surgery, and now because of this, I will have to get root canals and crowns on said teeth. In addition, after being esticless for 3 days, I was banded again today. I am majorly bummed about this, and today is only the second of my recovery when my spirits are down. Things have got to get better... Jayar
Guest guest
Jayar, I'm so sorry to hear about your disappointing appointment. Yes, scream if you need to - but be careful not to hurt yourself. Things will get better ... believe it. Hang in there, Carol > I'm 18 days post-op, and had an appointment today with my surgeon. Guest guest
Jayar, Didn't your ortho or dentist let you know that this was a possible complication of the upper jaw surgery? My dentist told me to expect at least one root canal as a result. I'm sorry to hear that you'll have two. but just remember, you'll get past this hurtle too. Guest guest
I have never heard this, has anyone else heard this? Just wondering why this would happen? Guest guest
Jayar, that sucks! Steph, is this a risk for lower surgery, too? I'm scared!
Guest guest
I was warned about one or more of my teeth breaking but not root canals. However, if you think about it, when they move your jaw or both jaws there is a lot of movement and stuff going on inside your mouth and nerves can be affected so it comes as no surprise that some unwanted side effects to the teeth can occur. Luckily they sound like the sort of thing that can be easily sorted at the dentists and nothing to really worry about although Jayar I'm sure that if I find out the same thing when I go see my OD tomorrow I'll scream too, Oh well, at the end of the day we have a better bite. What's a tooth or two, right? Also, maybe they decided to put the bands back on just to be safe. You weren't in them for very long after all. I know it's frustrating but hold on tight just a little longer. You'll get there soon! Guest guest
Hi there, Yeah, I knew it was a possibility, but they said it was not likely to happen. My surgeon told me it was the first case in his 17 years of these surgeries. The teeth affected are on the bottom... both of the bottom eye teeth. I will get over it, but sigh. Another chunk of change to shell out. Thanks for the support, Steph. > > I'm 18 days post-op, and had an appointment today with my surgeon. > Two of > > my teeth are officially damaged from the surgery, and now because of > this, I > > will have to get root canals and crowns on said teeth. Guest guest
It's not common as far as I've heard, for upper surgery. I believe it's more common to have tooth problems when widening the upper palate since the surgeon is cutting between the teeth rather than simply above the gum line. I had no problems at all, other than the fact that my teeth were more sensitive post-op. That did go away in time. > > Jayar, > > > > Didn't your ortho or dentist let you know that this was a possible > > complication of the upper jaw surgery?
