Guest guest
H ! I am always jealous of you guys who get diagnosed and find SCD so fast! It took me 18 years (full of pain, medications and surgeries) to commit to SCD and it really is the best thing I've done. Even though I have A LOT of healing to do (I am probably a " worse-case " scenario since my disease is so bad and I've had it for so long), I know that SCD is working. And I've never eaten better! You will find that everybody on this forum loves the diet because it is making their quality of life so much better! Truth be told, it is tough sticking to it and constantly being in the kitchen to prepare your own food. But in the end, it is so worth it. And just feeling better is the greatest motivation to keep doing it. You are by no means limited to any of the recipes in the book. As long as you use " legal " SCD ingredients, you can cook or bake whatever you want! You find a lot of postings here of people sharing/trying new recipes The possiblities are endless. Welcome! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 30mg Prednisone P.S. Your experience with your GI sounds awful. Sorry you had to put up with that. > How do you like the diet? > Can you mix and match the ingredients that are allowed? Guest guest
hey - happy 4th - and welcome to a nice place - that " those " docs should know about!!! can't stand to hear that - flashbacks to " see you in a month " - as I was dwindling down to 83lbs and thinking -no, i'll be dead by then!!! and my only symptom was nausea - imagine D too - would have been a goner - anyway... so glad you found us - very important to have read the book and have the right ingredients to start - most of us realize after thinking we were doing it right that there were illegals sneaking in back in the early days so to answer some ?'s - you will have more -ask away but yes you can mix and match the intro diet - pecanbread.com gives stages that don't have to be followed but are a great help in knowing what to add/try next EVERYONE is DIFFERENT - so don't think you have to stick by them - i'm 2 1/2 years in and only stage 3 - and can handle eggs but not boiled ones - it's that specific! so make your soup, enjoy your meats - only do 2 days of intro since your BM's are formed - no more than 5 is allowed anyway keep a food journal - of everything - even pills - which should be added a bit later - and write ALL reactions bm, emotional, rashes etc etc add 1 thing every 2-4 days so you can tell how you react - you MAY start reacting to things you never did as they're being uncovered (not really just appearing now ) i lived off dairy (and sugar!) but not doing well with dairy now -so you never know -and I eat stuff I never would have touched and LOVE everything I eat (and I'm yeasty so that's no honey or fruit but cooked berries) and it's awesome -and healing and you'll love it welcome again Eileen > >
Guest guest
First of all thank you from the bottom of my heart for your replies! it truly means a lot to me! In 2007 I was diagnosed with EBV and Chronic fatigue syndrome, that's when I find the wonderful doc I was telling you about...he completely changed my diet at the time and since then I've been extra good, almost no sugars, I was only having goat cheese and feta, no milk, so I know I was very healthy eating-wise before this thing happened to me...I truly believe it's also connected to stress and of that I'm guilty... I started today and I kinda just started with some of the recipes...all I see in there are things that I would eat anyway...there are a few things that i wasn't eating anymore like for example cheddar cheese, but I'm sure I'll be ok... I'm gonna see how it goes and I'll keep you posted...thanks for the links they are very helpful!!! Thank you again and have a beautiful and healthy 4th of July:) > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi , Your story has some similarities to mine. I remember being dizzy all the time from the medication I was on, and my own GI being less than sympathetic. SCD has made a big difference for me. I al so took 8 sulfasalazine a day- which is in the normal dose range. Thankfully I am now on 4 a day which is maintenance. Some people have had to build up to the dose of sulfasalazine. It does help and you may want to try it at a lower dose and build up. Welcome to SCD. One has to be on the diet strictly, starting from the intro diet and working up. Pecanbread.com is helpful with starting the diet and suggested stages, although it is non dairy for kids with ASD. We can have SCD yogurt and legal cheese. There is a lot to learn with SCD but I think it is worth it.
