well first of all if you're being banded or wires shut you shouldn't be

able to open your jaw very much at all. Remember, it's bone healing so

no brusque movements. Your surgeon should be able to tell you how much

anyway. I'm banded and have a splint and I can open I would say about

2mm to 5mm at most, just enough to get liquids in and enough to allow

me to talk (rather lisp and grunt).

I also don't think you will feel like walking very much for at least

the first 24 hours post-op. I know that I have made an amazingly fast

recovery but I was very weak for the first two days and didn't really

feel comfortable walking around the house on my own until day 3. If you

can, get someone to stay with you for the first couple of days or at

least check in on you and make sure you're taking your meds and liquids.

GOOD LUCK!

i just had upper + genio 5 days ago. i can open my mouth about 60%

maybe a little more. it feels like the genio is preventing me from

opening it any wider... not the upper jaw cut.

my surgeon banded me and said if they broke.. its not really a big

deal. i cut the bands off to brush my teeth last night :).

you will be able to walk the next day no problem. i got very

nautious for the first 24 hours after surgery.. and could not even

really sit up. after that everything was good.

the only real medicine you will need will probably be antibiotic.

which you should be able to swallow. or mix with applesauce, etc..
