Guest guest
There is not a legal protein powder, however, unlimited amounts of protein is allowed on SCD.I think everyone just makes do with plenty of meat, fish, and eggs. You can snack on beef patties- they freeze and travel well, chicken breasts, hard boiled eggs, and eat frequent small snacks of these as a protein supplement. PJ > > Hi all, > > I am new to SCD and while I am certain that this question has been asked before, I still feel its necessary to ask again. I am a very active 27 year old triathlete who uses a very clean protein powder nearly everyday for recovery phases after a workout. I am curious if there is any sort of protein powder, whether its whey based, soy based or some sort of gluten free version of either that is allowed on the SCD diet. If the answer is no, would anyone who possibly found themselves in my situation, be able to offer up some advice as to how they handled the challenge of eliminating protein powder from their diet while still maintaining the proper daily protein intake required to sustain muscle growth. > > Thank you in advance, > > >
Guest guest
Hi , I am in a very similar position. I'm currently training for a 1/2 ironman and have found as my training plans increases (the race is in August) I am having some serious issues with getting enough, easily digestible, nutrition. I do take glutamine after workouts and find that works well for muscle recovery. As far as, protein replenishment I have been making what I call " cashew energy chews " adapted from a caramel recipe. It's basically cashew butter, honey and some oil. I freeze them in bite size servings and use them either during the bike or immediately following the run. Hope that helps a little. I would love to hear anything you're doing that is working well. I have yet to find a trainer or nutritionist who can really help--they just don't understand the diet. Good Luck, Stacey > > Hi all, > > I am new to SCD and while I am certain that this question has been asked before, I still feel its necessary to ask again. Guest guest
I was at digestive wellness and they had gotten a sample of Peruvian Brazil Nut Protein Powder that they aren't going to carry and they let me take it home as I have serious low selenium levels - you'd have to contact www.essentiallivingfoods.com to confirm a letter of legality and because it's brazil nut powder - you probably couldn't take it more than once a day or you'd be in danger of too much selenium but thought I'd throw it out there also I used to make avoc, ban, pecan butter ,yogurt drinks - you could throw in Egg whites too hope this helps eileen 2 1/2 years scd > > > > Hi all, > > > > I am new to SCD and while I am certain that this question has been asked before, I still feel its necessary to ask again. I spent considerable time a few years ago corresponding by snail mail with the HIV and AIDS organizations in New York City when they asked me about it. I told them the little that I know and that is that through the years, the protein in whey has always been considered to be an inferior protein for human consumption. Years ago, we knew it contained the more antigenic proteins in the milk and we also knew that Depts of Agriculture were promoting that whey (a waste product from cheese manufacture) be turned into a moneymaking commodity.More recently, whey protein hypers claim that whey protein contains a factor that has to do with insulin but I have forgotten the details except to read in literature that these very factors being hyped are, in fact, having a negative effect on sick people. So my answer to you is that I do not like it. Protein powders that contains Bifidobacteria Bifidum. Protein Powders are a bad Protein Drink:Yogurt, egg, honey, vanilla in the blender. This is what I did when I got out of the hospital because they wanted me to drink that Ensure stuff. I drank one in the hospital and was so ill it wasn't funny. I made my own when I got home and my doc was as pleased as punch. Charlene F. Guest guest
Hi Stacey, Thanks very much for writing back. As far as a nutritionist is concerned, I agree, it is difficult to find someone who is open minded and willing to work with you. I'm from Monmouth County, NJ and work with a nutritionist who is in Red Bank, NJ. He is exceptional and I am going to pick his brain this week when I meet with him, I'll write to you after my meeting with him with any helpful tips. The glutamine and the " bites " sound like great ideas, as of yet, I havent really discovered a really solid solution to our troubles, but the more I explore, the more I will be in touch. Where is your 1/2 ironman, is it the one in Philadelphia? Thanks and good luck to you, > > > > Hi all, > > > > I am new to SCD and while I am certain that this question has been asked before, I still feel its necessary to ask again.
