Guest guest
The angle of the flat spot is decidedly " mild. " The forehead is hardly involved at all. But, is that a bump in the skull behind the left ear, as in brachycephaly? The fact that I can't see both ears (and the alleged misalignment between them) is another clue. Severity is a more mathematical question in that case, so I guess you'll want the " cranial index " from your specialist. Unless it is just hair. I can see why you'd want a helmet. How can you apply force to that high point with repositioning? The back of the head is basically a triangle. And even if you could, how would that hold back the brachy (if present)? If slept on his tummy, flat spot toward the mattress, gravity's pull might affect both... but by the time that is allowed, will it do any good? I was never a successful repositioner, but I suggest looking into techniques involving foam mattress pads. We never tried that. If you are able to get a helmet, all those worries disappear. So, definitely worth the money, in my opinion. I'm just afraid you won't get a prescription next week. You *need* a pro-helmet doc. -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 20 months, in STARband 3 1/2 months On Dec 7, 2009, at 1:43 PM, blueskies0402 wrote: > I posted some pictures of in a photo album labled " . Guest guest
I don't think I would say decidedly mild, I would say borderline mild/moderate, because I do see some forehead bossing (it's more apparent in the second bird's eye view photo because his head is more aligned straight up and down...plus I'm super sensative to it as that was my son's main issue) and his ears are misaligned, so that all adds to the complicated shape. I would definitely band. He's at a great age and you should get really good results. I don't think there is any brachy involved, it looks like classic plagio to me. And BTW, he is super adorable! My son has red hair too but didn't have that much hair at that age. I love it! Jake-3 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) > > > I posted some pictures of in a photo album labled " . Guest guest
Thanks Thad and for the feedback. I'm not going crazy or just imagining this all! I don't know whether to be happy or sad about that, but at this point we are preparing ourselves to band and hope that the doctor will agree. We actually know this doctor a little on a personal level (well, I know his wife well, and we are acquainted with the husband/Dr., though not as well...this was how we got in quickly to see him, even though his staff complains that he's double-booked all month and booked out for months.) I hope that this more familiar relationship will mean he'll be more inclined to respect our opinions and wishes and maybe do what we want even if he doesn't typically prescribe banding. It could all backfire on us too, but if he doesn't prescribe banding, we're prepared to find someone who WILL. > > > > > I posted some pictures of in a photo album labled " . Guest guest
Hi, I just looked at the pictures. His head looks similar to 's at 11.5 months! The numbers were mild, but we were told visually it was moderate. I would definitely band soon and I think you will get nice results. Personally, if I was in your shoes, I would look seriously at CIRS in Oakland. Traveling to CT would be another option. Another thing I strongly recommend is a highly qualified osteopath. sees one in Portola Valley if you're interested. It has really helped smooth out some of the angles. Other options are chiropractic care and CST. After treating for 6.5 months, 's head is now very mild and it is still improving. You have a few months head start on us.
