Hi Bianca,

It's generally recommended that you have someone around for the first

few days post-op (ideally 24 hours a day), but not essential. Some

people have gone it alone. A few reasons why you might want to have

someone around are:

1] Prepare " meals " for you on a schedule

2] Make sure you take your meds on schedule

3] Help you in and out of the bath (you can feel dizzy from the

effects of the anaesthesia and you don't want to fall and break your

healing jaws)

4] Provide some moral support through what can be some rough days

(not all of us have them but some of us do)

5] Run errands for you if you need things outside the house but don't

feel like going out

6] Answer the phone for you or make calls for you

7] Take care of small children if you have any

A helper/caregiver need not be specially trained, a family member, or

good friend is really all you need. Giving them some advance notice

of what they might expect post-op (your appearance, your general

condition) is helpful.

Hope that helps,

Hi Bianca,

You're welcome, glad it helped. Good plan to have somebody around,

you won't regret it.
