Guest guest
Amy, What you made sounds yummy. Eggs are also a great source of protein so I don't think you did anything wrong. Keep up the good work. Laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/241/
Guest guest
Could it be that your friend was expecting to eat 'diet' food. Low fat low calorie? I have noticed that people are saying they eat nothing but potatoes for a few weeks, and then the potato salad and beans. I am/was Type2 diabetic and these foods have not been part of my diet for more than 6 years. Should I prepare myself to eat this again? I know now I have a tiny little pouch and a tablespoon of potato salad will fill me up, but is this something I need to avoid further out as my pouch grows? I am still on liquid protein and should move up to cottage cheese next tuesday but I guess I want to find out ahead of time what to look forward to. What if you puree the meat or eat the canned meats, would that better for me than the potatoe salad? anne > I have noticed that I just cant stand to eat meat hardly at all > because it feels like it gets stuck, so i generally eat soft foods, > crakers, cheese, peanut butter, peanuts, cashews, sugar free pudding, > etc.. so last night i said i know that i could eat beans and > potatoes, so i made BBQ beans with onions, a little BBQ sauce, with > lean bacon, and I made potato salad with onions pickles, mustard, > mayo, and many eggs.... is there anything wrong with that? Guest guest
I do not blame you one bit Amy. I tried to puree my food also and I could not do it. I cannot stand tuna fish and I even tried it post- op since our taste buds change and it was a no go. I found out that if I bake chicken thighs in the oven and poor BBQ sauce over them, I can eat some chicken. Right now I have some meatballs in the crockpot. I am hoping I can do those. It is the 98% lean and I figure if I crockpot them to death, I can get them down. I am also going to melt some mozarella on top for some extra protein. Everyone is different. I also tried some crab and shrimp while I was on vacation in Texas and they were fine. But the crab I had to eat with mac and cheese. I see people on here eating lean cuisine meals also so I think what you had was fine. It was all homemade freshness and that sounds good to me. My nutritionist said the first 3 months are about getting food in. Try your protein first and then if not, eat noodles, potatoes and such. I have it in PRINT...ha ha. I thought I was doing a horrible job but I think we are all fine. I still drink a protein shake a day just to help get some in. I don't wanna lose my hair. Plus we met a lady at our orientation who liked pasta so much she didn't eat any protein for a few weeks. She malnurished herself and had to be put in the hospital and was given lipids. PLus ALL her hair fell out (she was an older lady in her 60's). But she scared me enough to get in some protein one way or another. Ok, enough babbling. Point of the message, eat what you feel you can AMy and the rest will work into play later. Good luck. Keep us posted. My fiance Rich had it stressed to him that he was to eat protein first, then other things secondary (vegies, fruit). His nutritionist discouraged starches...bread, potatoes, rice and things like which would expand in your pouch and take up too much space. You really have to get your protein in - that's paramount. But even with eating protein first, you have to supplement it to get an adequate amount over the day. Guest guest
I certainly wasn't blaming you just questioning for me in the future. Right now I am so sick of sweet - liquid protein is all so sweet I am relishing broth. I was just curious as potatoes and mayonnaise have been forbidden foods for so long. Not that I couldn't get used to them again. I am just curious what to expect when I get to eat real food. I think your friend was just freaked out by you having the surgery to lose weight and then not eating what he assumed would be your diet forever. Good luck with getting something to eat. anne > well, i just know that my soft food stage my nutritionist said i could eat potatoes, well, i am a little over 6 weeks out and to be honest, i will not eat purred foods.. it is nasty to me, id rather not eat at all.. So the nutritioist said beans was a good source of protein, so that is why i made that.. and the ptoato salad i have extra eggs in it, so like i told him, its not like i am able to eat ahuge helping, and i will burn what little i eat off by walking.. Guest guest
What people dont understand is that we are subjectable to the rules of Dieting because what can be bad for regular people can be good for us depending on the protein and vitamins that we have in our bodies. We should watch carbs only when your at the stage to, when you are able to handle just about any food, (such as me). but when your early out you need to really try a little of everything (when the times right) to see what you will be able to handle. My doctor did not stress about carb intake because you cant intake that much anyhow, He did stress about sweets, fried foods, some dairy, and not to drink and eat at the same time. Dont worry your not the only one who has had to deal with the food issues or stupid people who have never had this done but think they know everything about it. So just forget them your doing fine. > I have noticed that I just cant stand to eat meat hardly at all > because it feels like it gets stuck, so i generally eat soft foods, > crakers, cheese, peanut butter, peanuts, cashews, sugar free pudding, > etc.. so last night i said i know that i could eat beans and > potatoes, so i made BBQ beans with onions, a little BBQ sauce, with > lean bacon, and I made potato salad with onions pickles, mustard, > mayo, and many eggs.... is there anything wrong with that?
