Guest guest
Joy, From what I've read here your not the only one becoming pregnant shortly after surgery. I'm sorry I don't remember it but there is a website for pregnant WLS patients. I'm sure someone here can let you know what that is. I wish you luck and do please contact your doctor ASAP so that you can start on the proper vitamins and nutritional items. Guest guest
Hi Joy! I know you are panicking right now. But let's take a deep breath. Okay? First, did you call your surgeon? PCP? Let's find out what all your options are before you start panicking. Maybe your doctor's will tell you as long as you do x, y and z that you will be able to carry this baby fine. So call your doctor! Please let us know what you find out. I will say a special prayer for you tonight. If you are anything like me there were a lot of reasons to have this surgery ... risks of diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., bone and joint problems and at the top of my list was to be able to get pregnant finally. Keep me updated. in Delaware Lap RNY 3/10/04 261/179/120 In a message dated 7/22/2004 11:43:49 AM Eastern Daylight Time, " jtaz64 " writes: >I had my Surgery On May 5Th i've lost 33 pounds since then I took a >home pregnancy test wensday night and it can=me back positiveand NOW >i'me scared to death and don't know what to do I want this baby >really bad I can use all the advice I can get please feel free to >give me all of your thoughts thanks...Joy > > > > > >
Guest guest
Joy - congratulations on the pregnancy. That is such a mixed blessing so soon after your surgery. I'm sure you are not the only one this has happened to. There is a yahoo group called OSSG- pregnant that might help with some support for you. Absolutely call your doctor though. Guest guest
Hi Joy, My OB told me to be careful when I went to see him for a routine visit post-gastric bypass (I was about 2 months out). He said he had many (8-10) patients who got pregnant very quickly following the surgery. The good news is, he said that most did just fine during their pregnancies, but that they kept a very close eye on their weight gain, and some only gained 10 pounds throughout the whole pregnancy. I do think you should talk to both your surgeon and your OB as soon as possible so you can get the best pre-natal care possible. More vitamins and more protein would probably be really good for you! I know that it doesn't sound right to only gain 10 pounds, but when I had my son 2 years before my surgery they only wanted me to gain 15 pounds total as I already weighed 282. Best of luck to you! Let us know how you are doing!!! gbp 5/27/04 315/ 169/
Guest guest
Hey Lady, I feel for you, I was about 175 kg before the surgery, and I only did it because I got diabetes, and so I was told that I would live only 4 or 5 years if I don't change drastically. So my Gynecologist suggested Dr Hannon who did the surgery after preparing me for almost a year with Sleep lab and getting a Breathing machine (C-pack) I had to talk to a Nutritionist and a Dietician and now I know that the best way to find out about the " afterlife " is here, online. The surgery itself wasn't so bad (RNY), but it hurt for some time after. Then at home you have to live of liquids for a month or so (depending on your Dr I think) and then soft food. You have to loose all interest in sugar (the real stuff) and fat. Your stomach will be the size of one egg (4 oz) and you will have some problems adjusting, but looking at it now, 4 months and 72 pounds later: I would do it again. Depression will be an issue, but don't be scared, the girls here are great (guys too) and they really cheer you up. So if you feel like this is your only way to a happier life - my best wishes!!!!! JJ -- I need advice Hello All i am a young lady never been married before, 31 years old, from Cairo Egypt, 4 years ago i did a lapband surgery and it didn't work with me at all and i had a lot of problem (infection....etc) Now i am almost 140 KG now i can't get married, ... you know the old long story about a fat girl that no men like... i am sending this today because i need your advice specially all people who already did the gastric bypass all the side effects after the surgery i hear a lot but only from doctors and all of them are not 100% honest so i need a true advice what is happenning after the operation what you feel. how do you live? how do you eat? do you enjoy your life? what about depression? please i need full details honest reply and please send me directly in private on my e-mail as i am not openning the web too much Best Regard Abir From Egypt
Guest guest
Abir, I have been very successful with this surgery. I had a laperoscopic rny on 3/10/04 and have lost about 90 pounds thus far. I did not have have any major complications with the surgery, nor have I had any post-op. I think that an individual needs to be psychologically prepared for a huge change in their life if they are having WLS. This surgery effects you physically obviously, but also mentally. However, I feel that overall it effects people in a positive way mentally. One has to be serious about their health and about wanting to live a longer, happier, healthier life. I am the kind of person that doesn't do things half way and when I made the decision to do this, it was all or nothing for me. I have changed the way I eat for obvious reasons, but I make healthy choices, and it takes a little getting use to chewing your food well when you eat, but it's almost like second-nature now. When I came home from the hospital I was a little sad because I just wanted to eat normal, but with a lot of patience I made it through. I always weigh out the pros and cons of each difficult decision I need to make. This is a personal decision for each of us and it may not be for everyone. Once in a while I miss having a soda, but I know that having a soda is not worth not having what I have now, a healthy life. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. I'll do the best that I can to help you. in Delaware Lap RNY 3/10/04 261/171/
Guest guest
Your post is very encouraging.. it IS nice knowing what i have to look forward to and to know that everyone has the same concerns. One question is how long before a lap surgery is it possible to go back to work, and has anyone had work consider this short term disability? or will i have to use vacation time?? > Abir, > > I have been very successful with this surgery. Guest guest
My surgeon required me to be out of work for at least 4 weeks, not because physically I couldn't go back (I'm a legal assitant at a law firm), but because I needed to learn to eat properly, i.e. what to eat, chewing, taking my supplements, etc. She wanted me to have things become more of a habit before I went back to work. Also, I was on short term disability the whole time I was out. Let me know if I can help in any other way. in Delaware Lap RNY 3/10/04 261/171/
Guest guest
What is the normal price range for the chewable calcium things you all talk about it starts with a V? And what is the normal price range of the atkins shakes as well if you all don't mind sharing this info with me. I have been doing some shopping around. Guest guest
Viactiv costs about $8 for a 60-count box and the Atkins shakes are like $10 for a 4 pack, maybe a little less, I think the stir-in kind (that I use more often) is $15 for the container. If you shop around online you may find them all cheaper though. Guest guest
Why not start those habits now? The program I am part of really stresses giving yourself a headstart into the new lifestyle. Maybe if your surgeon sees that you are practicing now, she will feel more comfortable about releasing you sooner. - in CA __________________________________________________
