Guest guest
Caboose, how about spinach...spinach salad is the best maybe with a few blueberries thrown in but if you can't stomach that try cooked spinach with a bit of garlic and lemon or with some parmesan cheese melted on top. Also very fortified with iron is cream of wheat! Other foods that have iron are: Clams (3 oz have 24 mgs of iron)...clam chowder anyone??!! Oysters Soybeans Lima beans Kidney beans Lentils Pumpkin White beans I'll try to think of some more iron foods for you. Sara girl > Hi all, > > I need some suggestions for some iron fortified foods! Guest guest
Hiya! Dark leafy greens have tonnes of iron. Also, try beets or raspberry tea. You can also eat the beet greens. Good luck! Guest guest
Hey , My surgeon told me I needed to get my iron intake up before my surgery too, and I found it was a lot easier to just take a supplement. Since I had taking horse-sized capsuls, I actually got the Flinstones chewable childrens vitamin. It has 100% of your daily iron need in one pill (? Barney or Fred?). They actually taste pretty good too -- kind of like candy! ;-) It's a lot better than liver anyhow! Good luck in your preperation --- you're almost there! > Hi all, > > I need some suggestions for some iron fortified foods! Now don't tell > me liver, YUC!! Guest guest
Thanks Fay, I can handle the dark leafy greens, and I also like beets. I will surely try the raspberry tea! Thanks a bunch for your suggestions! > > Hi all, > > > > I need some suggestions for some iron fortified foods! Now don't > tell > > me liver, YUC!! Guest guest
The very best thing you can do is take Floradix, it's a liquid iron & B vitamin supplement that you can get at any good health food store. Because it's a liquid, it's easier absorbed than pill supplements (which can also bung you up apparently). I took this for about a month pre-op (1 dose a day) and then 2 doses a day post-op. It was recommended both by a nurse friend who'd had this surgery and my cranial massage therapist. The nurse friend had taken it years before during her pregnancy. I think spinach is high in iron too, but I'd suggest the Floradix is the best solution for you. Hope that helps! > Hi all, > > I need some suggestions for some iron fortified foods!
