Guest guest
Jen, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hold on a little more, Wednesday will eventually drag its heavy butt over here:-) I didn't have wires but from what I hear the de-wiring experience is painless and liberating so you definitely have a lot to look forward to. Sher was eating mashed potatoes on the day she got dewired so food wise you might not be eating steak or crackers but you can get something more solid that soup in there! Good luck and don't be sad. Soon you'll have a gorgeous new smile to flash:-) Sara > To All. > What I am to expect when I get my wires off? I don't want to get my > hopes up to high. Guest guest
Hi Jen--I am 14 days post-op today & I had my wires off on Friday (only 10 days post) Let me see---I was scared as hell. Thought my jaw would fall off (well not really but you know what I mean) I had a hard time taking my hands away from my jaw. It doesnt hurt a bit and it simply feels strange. Your chin may shake a wee bit because the muscles are weak. They had me brush my teeth while I was there. YES- I got rid of most of the fuzz growing inside my mouth!! it was difficult to trust your jaw to open enough for a toothbrush to go in. I was weepy and scared but I did manage to get it in and each day when I take my elastics off to eat, I slowly exercise my jaw opn & closed and it gets about 1/2-3/4 " open. I use a fork to eat , NOT A SPOON, it is much easier. For some reason, they like to tell you to use a baby spoon, but I found a fork slides in much easier. You will feel like a new woman when your wires come off, so enjoy hunny. Sher > To All. > What I am to expect when I get my wires off? I don't want to get my > hopes up to high. Guest guest
Jen, I understand thinking you are going out of your mind. This will end for you. It doesn't help much to hear that from people it helps more for you to just say it out loud and to type it. Everyone has a limit and you think you are at it right now, your not, you will make it another day. I have had one problem after another, too many to list and too many to beleive. I've had 2 surgeries ( 2.5 weeks apart) today is the 8 week mark from the first surgery I should be on the other side now but I am far from it. My jaw and teeth are perfect. My problem is that my tongue and the floor of my mouth are numb and at the same time I have a pain level of 7 to 9 24 hours a day. I see 6 DR's once a week and they don't know why this happened. I will be see 2 new DR's next week, a nerve DR and a pain DR. I was wired the second surgery and when they came off the DR said open and I thought I could put a big truck in the opening, I couldn't put a finger tip in the opening. (3 weeks) Last night I did my little stretches and I was able to put my thumb in. Now that would be a good deal if I sucked my thumb, it did make me happy. Ok, having said all of that, about once a week I've know I was going out of my mind and here I am still getting up each day hoping it will be better then yesterday. Keep saying it out loud and you'll make it. Michele
