Guest guest
You're absolutely right and my boyfriend was just telling me the same thing. He often jokes that he feels he has to share my attention span with this group because he's come home more than once since he arrived two weeks ago only to find me engrossed in reading the postings. Lol! Off to bed now....Kate your time will come sooner than you think, much like the day of the surgery me thinks! For now, enjoy being in a learning environment. I will miss it loads! Nite to all! Guest guest
Becky, lol you do make me chuckle:-D Well I was going to take the liberty of dedicating a full post for how my ortho visit went today but since you caught me out on it here goes with the recap. Today was a very GOOD day. I still in shock by how lucky I've been but don't want to count my lucky chickens too quickly lest bad luck come through my window. We Italians are superstitious like that so I shall proceed to tell you how all went with my fingers crossed. So I went to my ortho to get my new archwire put in. I was really nervous before hand because it's only been 3 weeks since the surgery and my upper jaw was dissected into only 4 pieces so who knows what could happen! Plus I'd heard about all the pain other people had had during their ortho fittings post op. Well it seems that my upper jaw is still completely numb because I really didn't feel that much. The scariest part was really when i could see that my ortho was pressing hard on the teeth and jaw and I thought my mouth would just snap in two. Ironically what did hurt was when he put in the o-rings on my bottom teeth. That hurt like HELL. I literally jumped out of the chair and then sat myself down again by gripping on the chair's arms with my hands. My mom was in agony just watching me she said (yes mum has decided she likes to sit in on all visits now, as if I was a 10 yr old still but I think it's sweet). Anyway, he put in new archwires on the top and bottom and then he put a white powerchain all across my front teeth which I must say I like because it makes my teeth look very white. The close the spaces I have from where the teeth got taken out he put these other powerchains of metal. I don't know if it was the painkillers that I took before hand or the fact that I'm numb but I'm surprised by how little everything hurt, except for those blasted o- rings. Anyway, the good news is that he told me that everything was sitting just perfectly and that he reckons that I'll be able to take the braces off in 4 to 5 months. Whooooppppppeee!!! That means that by October/November I shall be bracelss AND more importantly I can welcome 2006 in with a perfect smile! I'm so happy!!! The next good news he delivered to me was that because my teeth match up so well and because my bite is looking so good he doesn't think I need to wear elastic bands anymore. He said that I just need to keep an eye out for my two upper teeth that sit under the eye. If I start to see those shift then I need to get the elastics back on. I'm not sure how my OS will feel about me not wearing bands since originally he had told me he wanted me to wear them for at least a month but we'll see what he says on Thursday at my last visit. Anyway, my upper jaw feels really good with the archwire in. I never thought I would be happy to have one in but last night things felt pretty shaky with no splint and archwire. I can't believe how well my recovery has been going. I'm still very swollen in the upper lip area and in my cheeks where the titanium plates were put in so when I smile I look like some weird alien but who cares!! As Becky said, I'm splintless and elasticless (for now, we'll see what OS says on Thurs) and I'm flying home to my Alessandro!!! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Dreams really do come true! Thanks all for listening to me throughout these past few weeks. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. And let me assure you that I won't be disappearing. I'll be around to offer support as usual. Oh one last thing, my OS and OD both confirmed that I could stop using the dreaded peridex and move back to Listerine. Flossing is still off limits for a while and my stitches still show no sign of budging right above my front teeth and bottom teeth on the gumline. Still, I'm not complaining!! Sara xx > no elastics? what, were you gonna just throw that one in there and > expect no one to notice?!? holy crap! you're unsplinted, unbanded, > and on your way to italy!!! yeah!!!! > > -becky
Guest guest
Sara, I couldn't be any more happy for you ... unless you were me! I'm horribly jealous and envious. I'm SO glad that all of your ducks are lining up in a neat little row. Perhaps some of that good luck will rub off on me before my visit tomorrow. I'm hardly numb at all at this point ... so I think I'll take some pain medicine before my visit. Hey, one thing I'm not, is stupid! I hope you have a fantastic day tomorrow and that you hear what you want to hear from your Surgeon on Thursday. And you'd better keep in touch!!! Especially once is back on the board and beginning her recovery! All the best ... many huge congratulations!
