Guest guest
oh sara! it's sounds too good to be true! i'm so happy for you and hope your bite stays right where it is! this is sooooo good ) about two nights ago i was brushing my teeth - and realized how much extra room there was behind my upper molars. it's crazy! i immediately came out to the living room and had joey show me his mouth...and he actually has spaces too! i can't believe i never had any! i went to the ortho today...she's having braxton-hicks contractions but she's only 7 months. i hope it passes for her sake! she said everything is still looking good - and that my soft tissues had healed really well. still don't need bands...but there's no hope for me being desplinted for many many weeks. what's weird is that i have some mucous coming out of my left nostril (side of the fistula) that is yellow-greenish and opaque - but only clear stuff coming out of my right side. so she suggested, and i did, stop by the surgeon but he was in surgery. he's supposed to call me tomorrow...i guess it might be back on the anti-biotic for me ( has anyone else had something similar? i'm so so so happy for you sara! -becky
Guest guest
WAhoo! Congrats, Sara. Isn't it weird what the body becomes adjusted to? You will be feeling back to " normal " again soon, I'm sure. When my teeth straightened (in less than two months), it felt so strange, as if something was wrong (although it was actually finally right!). Now it's as if they've always been this way, though. Good luck! Luna
Guest guest
Sara, That is fantastic! Congrats!!! I haven't seen my teeth touch in, well, I can't remember the last time. So, I'm sure I'll have the same reaction you did. And I KNOW my Mom will bawl. Moms ... gotta love 'em! Now, you just take it easy ... and before you know it Thursday will be here and your Orthodontist will be giving you the thumbs up to take your flight home - sans splint! Heck, pretend you still have it in - eat carefully and don't talk too much. Do whatever you have to in order to take care of yourself. I'm so excited for you!!! Have you told your honey yet? I'll bet he's thrilled and so excited to see you. Gosh, it's all happening so quickly all of a sudden. is having surgery tomorrow. My splint is coming out Wednesday and I'm getting unwired. You've been unsplinted and are heading to Italy. <sigh> Once upon a time when all we did was wait ... and now look at us! The pre-oppers are post- oppers and the post-oppers are old timers, giving advice. There are new folks on the board every day. And so are the days of our lives! <silly giggles!> Let us know how it goes tomorrow ... and then hopefully, we'll hear from you once you're overseas. All the best, Sara. And big HUGS!!! Guest guest
becky, Okay, if I can't be gross among my surgery buddies, where CAN I be gross?!?! Just after surgery, I had to use Q-Tips to clean my nostrils because I wasn't allowed to blow my nose. I noticed that the side in which the tube was placed to bring the blood up from my stomach always had bloody mucus and the side that had the tube to my lungs to bring the air down always had clear mucus. I don't know anything about the fistula and such, so forgive my ignorance there. But maybe it's as simple as an after affect of the tube that was in each nostril? I figured it couldn't hurt to share my experience. I hope it helps, even a little. Let us know what the doctor says tomorrow. Take care, Carol > oh sara! it's sounds too good to be true! i'm so happy for you and > hope your bite stays right where it is! this is sooooo good ) > > about two nights ago i was brushing my teeth - and realized how much > extra room there was behind my upper molars. it's crazy! i > immediately came out to the living room and had joey show me his > mouth...and he actually has spaces too! i can't believe i never had any! > > i went to the ortho today...she's having braxton-hicks contractions > but she's only 7 months. i hope it passes for her sake! she said > everything is still looking good - and that my soft tissues had healed > really well. still don't need bands...but there's no hope for me > being desplinted for many many weeks. > > what's weird is that i have some mucous coming out of my left nostril > (side of the fistula) that is yellow-greenish and opaque - but only > clear stuff coming out of my right side. so she suggested, and i did, > stop by the surgeon but he was in surgery. he's supposed to call me > tomorrow...i guess it might be back on the anti-biotic for me ( > > has anyone else had something similar? > > i'm so so so happy for you sara! > > -becky

Guest guest
Carol, I used the Q-Tips too and still do on some days because I'm still not allowed to blow my nose very hard. To all the pre-oppers out there, even if this sounds grosse trust me when I say it works and provides you with a breathing passage. And Becky, I had the same experience as Carol re: one nostril with bloody mucus and the other with clearer mucus. Hope this helps. Guest guest
My name is and I am 17 years old. I am going into surgery tomorrow morning. My mother and I have known that I needed this surgery since I was about 8 or 9 years old...and all of a sudden it's tomorrow. I'm extremely nervous. Could someone tell me how long it was before they could eat regular foods again? Thanks

Guest guest
Bill & Sara, Thanks for the Q-Tip 'tip'....I am 8 days post-op, and still having some drainage from my nose....very minor amounts, but enough to clog up the nostrils a bit when it dries (sorry, I know it's gross). This tip will be tremendously helpful, because doc doesn't want me blowing my nose yet either. Thanks! Judy Carol, I used the Q-Tips too and still do on some days because I'm still not allowed to blow my nose very hard. Guest guest
Hi Sara, Desplinted sounds delovely! What a thrill this must be for you! You are definately on the downhill side of recovery at this point. Being a mom, I really felt for your Mom too. I am sure that was a momentous time for her as well.
