Guest guest
Hello, I had upper (forward & up), and lower jaw moved forward. My nose is a bit more up-turned now, it didn't get any more broad. If they move your lower back, your chin may be a bit lacking after the surgery. I feel that most docs don't normally advise unnecessary surgery. They are trying to make sure that the overall post-op appearance is good, not just the bite lining up. Good Luck with your decision. a > I was wondering how much of a change that orthognastic surgery has on > the appearance of one's nose and chin. Guest guest
I had exactly the surgery you're describing 4 months ago (lower back, upper forward and a bit down). How dramatic the change is going to be depends on how imbalanced you look to begin with. Moving the upper jaw out will make your nose appear a bit smaller and upturned. I have a big nose, so such change was not an issue. Lower jaw back will make your chin look smaller. I also have a big chin, so making it a bit smaller was a good change for me. Your surgeon should be able to produce at least an approximate sketch of what the change in your profile can be expected. My nose does not appear wider after the surgery. My surgeon explained that he actually put a bit stitch under my nose to make sure it doesn't get wider. Took forever to dissolve, too! Guest guest
If you have upper, it also depends on if the lower septum has to be repositioned. My lower septum area has nearly closed off my left nostril. When the upper is lengthened and moved forward in sections, the surgeon is also going to fix the lower septum. This will make a difference in my entire nose position. I will need an upper septoplasty down the road because of that shift for breathing reasons. I understand that my nose will look less prominent, and more balanced with my face. I do not know what the impact will actually be though. Has anyone had a computer generated post op approximation? That would be interseting. Fran > I was wondering how much of a change that orthognastic surgery has on > the appearance of one's nose and chin. Guest guest
I had upper/lower/ almost 4 weeks ago and my nose is much broader! nostrils are bigger and more upturned,I was happy with the surgery except for my nose which I really can't stand,I also had a slight jewish sort of bone at the top which is gone which also makes my nose look short and wide. It was broader the first 10 days and has subsided somewhat so it could just be swelling but if it stays like this im definately getting a nose job.i should add that they brought my upper jaw slightly upward and moved it back. -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " buckeyevsk " <vkakodka@w...> wrote: > I was wondering how much of a change that orthognastic surgery has on > the appearance of one's nose and chin.
