Hi there

Yesterday my mum had a big flareup. shes following the diet for about a year.

she had couple of minor flareup before. The day before she ate 1 mango could it

he be the cause of flareup. I need some help to figure out the legality of few

items and i am going to scan the labels any help would be appreciated. My other

question is the cheese mentioned legal in the book can we buy them from safeway

and what to look on the ingredients list.

Thank You

Pretty much anything could cause a flare up for different people, and mangoes (especially raw) can be hard for people to digest. Also, it could just be one of the routine flares of the diet, like the '3 month flare,' intensified by the mango she ate.I need some help to figure out the legality of few items and i am going to scan the labels any help would be appreciated. My other question is the cheese mentioned legal in the book can we buy them from safeway and what to look on the ingredients list.Probably. I don't have a safeway near me, but I think most grocery stores have cheeses that we can eat. Just make sure it only lists milk, bacterial culture, and possibly rennet or annatto on the label. Also, for cheese to be legal it has to be aged for at least 30 (?) days. Most cheeses don't tell you on the label, but if it's a hard cheese and lists 0 carbs, you're probably good to go. At one time, broccoli caused me to have flare ups, so yes it's possible that

mangoes caused it. That might just be a food she doesn't tolerate.

Follow what Alyssa said for cheese. Make sure it's aged at least 30 days and

doesn't have any illegals added. Butter too. I was buying butter and didn't look

at the label because I thought it would be ok. One day I looked and it had

natural flavorings. I finally found a butter with no illegals and is affordable

at my local AG (Associated Grocers) market. It's the American Beauty brand. When

I have a little extra money I get 's Creamery butter that is made at a

local dairy farm here in Louisiana. Their milk products make the best yogurt.

It's not homogenized so the fat rises to the top. I love to eat that. :D

Louisiana is one of the ridiculous states that has a law against selling raw

milk so I probably will never be able to try that.

What I did when I got ready to try cheese was to scan and print the

cheese page in BTVC and stuck it in my purse. I figured I'd never

remember exactly which cheeses are OK and which are not. I live in

WA state and I pretty much stitck to Tillamook cheeses from OR, primarily

because I think they have at least somewhat better milk. And I've stuck

to things like cheddar and colby which are pretty standard cheeses.

If you are looking at something exotic that isn't on the list, you would

need to write the manufacturer to get the ingredients and curing

times.

My other question is the cheese mentioned legal in the book can we

buy them from safeway and what to look on the ingredients list.

A raw mango once put me in the hospital with a bowel obstruction. This was

pre-SCD, but I was even on prednisone at that time and felt fine right up until

I ate the mango. I think it was probably the fiber.
