Guest guest
Hi Judy! Well, I hear you on being tired of the sweet and the salty. Also, I am a vegetarian, and this further reduces my options, even of soups. Have you tried squash? There are some really great tasting varieties such as butternut, and acorn. It is good baked with garlic and blenderized. It works great with the zip and sqeeze bags. I also suggested earlier that lentil soup blederizes really nicely and is a good substitute for all those tomatoe options. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Fay, I haven't tried squash yet, but I do love it! Thanks for the suggestion :-) I'll also try the lentil soup...I've got to get to the store to pick up some of the lower salt versions of these soups I think. My hubby has been really great about getting me the things I need...but doesn't really think about looking for the lower salt variety, but I'll remind him to do so, or else go with next time. Thanks again! Judy Hi Judy! Well, I hear you on being tired of the sweet and the salty. Also, I am a vegetarian, and this further reduces my options, even of soups. Have you tried squash? Guest guest
Judy, I was keeping a log of my intake, but finally decided I was probably taking in enough as I'm not losing weight. I do drink a Boost Plus in early am. Then later I make my soft scrambled eggs with ketchup and suck it in. The eggs are the best meal of the day. But I don't believe you can have soft foods yet as you are wired, correct? I then eat things like Cream of Wheat which I make soupy with some sugar & rice milk (I'm lactose intolerant). I can drink it then. Also, I blenderized canned peaches, but you could do fresh peaches, too. And I've mushed up bananas and sucked them into. I thought of trying some canned pumpkin with a little sugar, milk, and cinnamon. I haven't tried it yet. I haven't really tried any vegatables other than soups. I've blenderized split pea soup. I then take in another Boost Plus, Ensure High Calcium during the course of day. At lunch time I have tried some of Lipton's chicken noodles, but they take too much effort to eat. For dinner I take in some more eggs. I normally eat egg beaters, but feel I need the protein of whole eggs now. So I'm probably blowing my cholesterol right now!! I did find if I used Glucerna vanilla (less sugar) with egg beaters (they're pasteurized) I could make an egg nog. But I'm a chocoholic, so I'm fine with just the Boost & Ensure chocolate though it does get old. I know how boring this diet gets, I'm trying to figure out how to supplement with something different. Some things I've tried just don't taste good blenderized! I drink pineapple juice. I haven't had a desire for tomatoe juice, but maybe later I will. I usually like it. I don't if that helped any or not. Shirley
Guest guest
I am 7 months postop and when I was " shut " I actually did a lot of mexican food in the food processor with some salsa and sour cream. Tortillas and queso with salsa and sour cream. A little milk with thin it down as well and you don't even notice it. I too at first was afraid of the meat in the blender but starting off at 150#, I lost 15# in 2 weeks. I was doing anything to try and keep the weight on. Mexican food was my favorite in the processor though. > > Hi everyone, > > I'm 18 days post op now, and trying to be pretty diligent about > > getting enough fluids in everyday to heal properly. Guest guest
Shirley, Thanks for your suggestions - yes they did help! I sent my hubby to the grocery store yesterday and he got me some of the things you recommended. (Cream of wheat, canned peaches, etc.) He got me some different soup this time. Instead of the highly salted s soup he got me Progresso this time. Got me some Lentil, Vegetable, Chicken with Rice, Chicken and Dumplings, etc. He also bought me some chocolate pudding as a treat, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm not sure if that would be too thick to get in my mouth at this point. Yes, I am wired shut...and expect I will be for approx. 3 more weeks. I'll find out hopefully when I go see my O.S. on Tuesday for a post-op visit. By the way - I tried the Progresso brand Chicken and Dumplings last night for dinner (put it in the blender so it was all smooth). I was really hesitant because I thought " Yukk...chicken in a blender! " But....I was SO hungry for something different yesterday - that I tried it and it was really, really Yummy! Believe it or not I had the entire can of soup! I am still keeping a record of what I eat/drink during the day. I have lost some weight through all this - not a lot, maybe 8 pounds or so. Not sure, since I haven't weighed myself for about 5 days. The scrambled eggs you make sound good to me - except for the ketchup in them. Sorry, but I like eggs and ketchup too - just not mixed together! My husband and 15 year old son Jordan love their eggs that way (eggs/ketchup mixed) but I can't hardly stand to look at them eat it that way. I am glad though, that it works for you and you like it! Eggs are a great source of protein and I am still trying to think of a way for me to eat them, but haven't come up with one yet unfortunately. Because my mouth is wired shut and I have very limited room in my mouth I'm pretty scared to try to 'eat' anything that could possibly get stuck in there and then not be able to get it back out again. As far as Boost and Ensure - those drinks have been the main items in my diet; but they are really getting tiresome to have all the time. Initially I loved the strawberry, vanilla, and butter pecan flavors. Now though I am so sick of all of them...especially the strawberry because I've had so much of that flavor! Hubby bought me some chocolate yesterday , so I am going to have some today to mix- it up a bit. Thanks for your idea's they really did help. Glad you are now doing so good after all you went through initially :-) Judy Judy, I was keeping a log of my intake, but finally decided I was probably taking in enough as I'm not losing weight. Guest guest
Hi - I haven't tried any Mexican food in the blender - yet, but I could probably do it as long as it doesn't have beef in it. I dont' care for beef very much anyway, but the thought of it in a blender is highly unappetizing for me. A bean and cheese burrito with salsa and sour cream doesn't sound too bad though! Guest guest
Try cream of corn chowder or any kind of seafood chowder blended to get rid of the chunks. I found chowders were a nice in between the sweet and salty taste. Sara > Hi Judy! > Well, I hear you on being tired of the sweet and the salty.
