Guest guest
Hi Shirley, I'm 20 days post op today and still not comfortable sleeping on my side. The only way I am comfortable sleeping (still) is on my back, with my head raised. I keep my head elevated quite a bit yet, if not I still wake up with more jaw pain and more of a 'pressure' feeling in my face than I care to have. Also, it really bothers my ears and sinuses if I try to lay back very far. As far as my Tempur-Pedic bed, it is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! I would highly recommend a Tempur-Pedic bed for anyone with any kind of chronic pain problem, or back problem. I was badly injured 11 years ago when I was only 30 and my kids were itty bitty then. Believe it or not, I simply went out grocery shopping one day and when I was leaving the store with my bags in hand, the automatic doors malfunctioned and I was horribly crushed between them. I went through extensive treatments/rehab, plus had some surgeries as a result. Then a couple years ago I was hurt at work when I lifted some boxes (just to get them out of the reception area as our receptionist was on vacation the day the supplies arrived)...and I herniated 3 discs in my lower back as a result. Yes, I know - it was seriously bad luck...but anyway, I simply couldn't sleep on a regular bed after that injury ... so went and bought our Tempur-Pedic bed out of desperation after adding that work injury to the previous one! It's a little more expensive than a regular bed...but in my opinion, well worth it! Sorry - I got off the topic of orthognathic surgery - but just thought I'd try to briefly explain my injury story and how I came to get my wonderful bed ;-) By the way, Shirley - your pictures are wonderful!!! Your surgery was 4 days after mine - and I am still more swollen than you are in your pictures! I don't know why it's taking me so long for the swelling to disappear - I'll be 3-weeks post-op tomorrow, but I've still got a little way to go with the swelling in my sinus area, plus in my jaw, chin and neck. It still looks like I have a bit of a double chin, and I am seriously hoping that is due to the swelling in that area that's left. Anyway - your pictures look great, and I can only hope I look that good in a week or maybe two...! (?) Judy Judy, I believe it's what you're comfortable with. I asked my OS Tuesday (12 days post op), if I could sleep on my side. He said it was ok. My problem is sometimes it does make my jaws hurt more, or my ears (the pinna-outer part of ear) hurt as they are very pressure sensitive. I guess let your body be your guide as to what position you sleep in. I'm like you I have a ton of pillows, but am trying to get back to sleeping flatter as it's easier on my back. You're bed sounds so.... comfortable. I'll have to consider that for my next bed. Shirley
Guest guest
I second Judy's recommendation of the Tempur-pedic bed. It is without a doubt the best nights sleep my husband and I have ever had. I don't feel my 6' husband rolling around in bed and don't wake up in the middle of the night any more for what I thought were potty breaks. The bed reduces nighttime tossing and turning by a high percentage (can't remember the number right now). My husband said no to the adjustable bed. I call it my " little " (we got a king-size) piece of heaven!
