Antibiotics :(

Hey guys,

I've been on the SCD for about 3 months and I'm pretty sick right now. At first,

I thought I just had a regular cold so I tried to treat it with rest and chicken

soup, I didn't even take Tylenol. Well, after a week it still didn't go away so

I had to go to the doctor yesterday and he put me on ten days of antibiotics-

amoxicillin clavulanate- to try to clear up my bacterial infection. So I'm

wondering if there is anything I can do to lessen the effects of the

antibiotics? I'm very frustrated right now, I am finally getting over a major

flare and the antibiotics are only going to bring it back. I feel like I just

keep taking steps backwards.

Thanks,

Amber

Hi Amber,

Lots of probiotics is what I would do if you end up taking the

antibiotics.

But what is the antibiotic really for? If you have a chest cold –

that is viral and antibiotics won’t do a thing.

I don’t know the ins and outs of the SCD diet yet, but if

I have cold symptoms I immediately would not eat dairy (which we don’t do

right now anyway), no sugar, and no boxed Orange juice. Only a bit of freshly

made OJ. Drink lots of good fluids.

Hot water, fresh organic lemon juice, a bit of fresh ginger and

raw honey. – Lots of it, if your gut can tolerate it. Your feet in warm

water. Lemon juice fights viral; ginger and foot bath increases circulation.

Forget the Tylenol – waste of time. Drink mint tea to

reduce fevers naturally, with some health benefits. You should not have the

profuse sweating that one gets with fevers and Tylenol.

Hope you feel better soon.

J

P.S. I would only take antibiotics for pneumonia when it comes

to chest infections.

My doc always told me to take acidophilus capsules and eat yogurt which we

already do on SCD.

Thanks for the advice! I am taking the antibiotics because while this started as

a chest cold it has now become a throat, sinus, and ear infection, and the

antibiotics are supposed to stop it from spreading anymore.
