Guest guest
Hi Austria - Sounds like you are going to have surgery just a little before me. I'm having upper & lower (leForte & BSSO) for a overbite on Aug 15th. I've been wanting to have this surgery for a long time and I can't believe that it's just around the corner. I'd love to hear more about what you're getting done (you've probably posted it - but I might have missed it) Have a great day! Guest guest
Hey Cyndy, It is great to hear from you. I am having my surgery either August 12th or 19th depending on the hospital. As far as I know, I am having lower jaw advancement and a septoplasty (to take care of my deviated septum). I am starting to get nervous about it since it is so close. Actually I just found out today that I should have my pre-authorization from my insurance within 48-72 hours, so I am calling again on Monday to check and see. I also have been waiting a long time to have this surgery. I had braces from 8-10 years old, and when they came off, they made my mother sign a waiver saying that she understood that this was just going to get me through my teenage years without being ridiculed because I had a 13mm overbite. I got my braces on again in May of last year, and now I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I have an 8mm overbite right now, so that is what they are advancing. Hopefully it will take care of my daily headaches, and semi-monthly migranes that I have been getting for a couple of years now. And hopefully the septoplasty will take care of the breathing trouble! Are you going to post pictures along the way? I meant to scan my before pictures in last night, but I forgot to do it, I will probably do it over the weekend. Well, I should probably get back to work. Let me know how everything is going with you. My next OS appointment is Aug 3 for the surgery work up. Guest guest
Morning Austria - Looks like you are either right before or right after me! I think my surgeon's office has the best insurance person ever - she got my proceedure approved not just once but twice because my employer changed insurance carriers. (phew!!) I've had my surgery date for quite a while now - I live in Vermont so surgery time at the hospital is booked well in advance. I've been in braces for a little over a year now - although I never had them as a kid. It was pretty clear that braces alone weren't going to fix my overbite - and my parents just didn't have the insurance or the money to do surgery when I was younger. So now I'm doing for myself. I will post pictures - the funny thing is that I never took any head on pictures pre-treatment. Right now, after a year in braces - my front teeth are pulled in straight and you can't really tell the amount of overbite that was there before. Like you, I get lots of headaches, and I also snore terribly because of my high narrow palate and small airway. I see both my OS and OD on Aug 1 for my pre-surgical set-ups and consult. It's not that far away now! have a good day Cyndy __________________________________________________
Guest guest
This may be a little personal, but did your insurance pay for your braces. My dental insurance won't because I am over 21. However, my health insurance says that they cover orthodontics if it is a necessary part of treatment to correct a trauma or birth defect. This sounds great, but the request has not been submitted yet and I fear that there is a loop hole. Do you have any input. > Morning Austria - > Looks like you are either right before or right after me! Guest guest
Hey, No my insurance, BlueCross BlueShied Federal, did not pay for braces...and I am 20 years old. The only time BCBS Fed pays for braces is AFTER surgery...does that make ANY sense? What insurance do you have? Guest guest
I have BCBS also, and they wouldn't pay for braces pre-op. Can I ask how or why, rather they would pay for braces after the surgery is done? I'm just wondering, because my teeth AND my bite are changing (for the worse!) and I'll be 5 weeks post op tomorrow. I started to notice the shifting a couple weeks ago, but it was minor at that point and wasn't overly concerned. The shifting is still happening, and it's getting worse and worse - so now I'm thinking I may need to have braces put on afterall; which is really upsetting for me to think about after all this. Guest guest
Judy, Wow, I am sorry to hear about that. My guess for the Post-Op clause is for traumatic events, such as car accidents that shatter the jaw or something along those lines. You can call BCBS, there should be the number on the back of your insurance card, and ask them, or talk to your orthodontist and see if they can try to claim it. It may be better coming from them, because they will know what to say. Did you have braces pre-op? Because they PROBABLY won't pay anything if you already had them, but it is worth a try. I would definitely talk to someone about your teeth/bite moving for the worse, and get something done about it before it becomes a major problem. Keep me updated, Austria --- rainbow55076 wrote: > I have BCBS also, and they wouldn't pay for braces > pre-op. Guest guest
Austria, I didn't have braces pre-op, no. But, I did have braces when I was a teenager, which straightened and aligned my teeth very well, which is the reason I didn't have them before this surgery. Now with my bite/teeth shifting in a way they shouldn't be, I don't know what to think other than braces are likely in my future again unfortunately. I did call my OS office today (which by the way is at the Mayo clinic) and both he and his assistant were in surgery all day. I'm hoping to get a call back from them tomorrow because I really need to know what to do so this problem doesn't get any worse. Judy > Judy, > Wow, I am sorry to hear about that.
