Hi I found this site via Yahoo.Im looking to talk to and learn from others who

have walked this path.Im 26 and have just been diagnosed with a class 3

malloclusion. And was told that the surgery was my most promising option.Im

looking at possibly an Oct/ Nov surgery.

My other big question , and Im kind of ashamed about this, but has anyone lost a

few molars due to the misalignment of jaws?

What type of orthodontic treatment is required after?

Please feel free to IM me.Im just trying to learn all that I can.

Thanks for being here!

Terri

Hi Terri,

Welcome to the group! I think you will find this group to be very

helpful and informative to you.

Yes, I have lost a molar of mine, tooth #18, which was more than

likely because of my misaligned jaws. I have had to have 10 root

canals and 3 apico's which my dentist stated he felt was because I

was wearing my teeth down due to my misaligned jaws. He referred me

immediately to an Orthodontist for treatment to stop all the pain I

was having. Since being in braces 28 months ago, I have not had to

have any more root canals. I had a Lefort 3-piece on June 28th. I

still have about another year or so to be in braces.

Anyway, best of luck to you & feel free to ask any questions at

anytime because everyone on this group is always willing to offer you

advice and suggestions.

Hi! I'm 32 and just starting the process myself. I just had my MRI

two days ago. I haven't lost any molars. I also have a Class III

malocclusion. Do you have to have braces prior to the surgery? That

seems to be one of my big worries. The other is the insurance. I am

hoping they cover most of this, but a lot of people on the site seem to

have a lot of out of pocket expense. I guess it would be well worth it

though. Let me know how things go for you.

Hi there Terri - Welcome to the group! I'm 47 and have an underbite

too (Class 3). I will be getting my spacers and ceramic brackets

installed on July 26th (next Tuesday) and then the spacers out &

archwires/bands on molars/o-rings all go in on August 9th. I will be

in braces pre-surgically for ten months and post-op for another six

months. My OMS told me that I not only have Mandibular Hyperplasia

(underbite) but also Maxillary Hypoplasia, which results in a midface

deficit. So, I will be having a BSSO Set-Back procedure(Bilateral

Sagittal Split (Ramus) Osteotomy), as well as a probable LeFort

Maxillary Osteotomy to advance my maxilla. I use the word " probable "

only because I haven't decided to let my Surgeon do that procedure

yet. My surgery will probably occur next summer. Welcome to the club -

you are not alone! ~~~~ Diane
