Guest guest
I tried to make mashed potatoes. I just peeled the potatoes andput them into boil. After an hour they still were not boiled. Needless to say, it helps to CUT the potatoes up not boil them whole ROFL. ========================================================== About 12 years ago, I decided for mother's day that I would cook dinner for Tim's mother and his grandmother. Turns out the rest of his family showed up too. I made salad, shrimp cocktail, spadina, vegetables and dessert. On the way to his parent's house, I realized I forgot the mashed potatoes so I had Tim pull into a place by us called Zorn's. (don't know if they're out of NY) it's a catering type of place where you can get take out. Well, bought mashed potatoes from them, put them in a spare corning ware dish I had and off to the in-laws we go. Wouldn't you know, they loved dinner, but absolutely raved about my mashed potatoes. I threatened Tim with certain bodily harm if he told them I didn't make the mashed potatoes. I just told them it was an old family recipe and very labor intensive, etc. Since then, whenever they come here for dinner or we go there (thank God it is a very rare occassion), my mother in-law asks me to make my " special " mashed potatoes. I can't tell you how much money I have spent over the years driving to Zorn's to get these mashed potatoes for the holidays. However, its a great tradition, they don't know it and we get a good laugh about it. Tim's friend is in on the secret and when he came over last Christmas and saw the mashed potatoes in a mixing bowl with the blades still in them, I thought he was going to choke. At least I make them look authentic. She wants me to make them for this Thanksgiving. She knows I'm busy with school and didn't want to ask for anything that was so time consuming, but everyone just loves them so much and she just can't seem to get it right. Yes, I gave her a recipe for them. Made one up that sounded plausible. LOL I assured her that even though I am busy, that it would be my pleasure since everyone loves them so much. I just pray that Zorn's never goes out of business. LOL Regina
Guest guest
haha you can always blame that they no longer sell the " special " ingredient if zorn's goes out of biz one day. Guest guest
ROTFL.......that is just priceless! For your sake I hope Zorn's never goes out of business also. Might ask for their recipe? Tell them it is JUST in case? LOL I don't have too many funny cooking stories to tell on myself. Except the first Thanksgiving I was married...we were living in Puyallup...I have NO idea WHERE this place would be NOW (this was 30 some years ago) I put this BEAUTIFUL turkey on the platter from my wedding china, was walking out of the kitchen with it....and it slid right off the platter on to the floor. I tell you, I was FASTER then the 30 second rule... I had that bird off the floor and back on that platter before you could blink an eye. Never told a soul. Until YOU guys! Guest guest
I can add a " cooking story " . I married at 19, fixed new hubby a beautiful meal after having him cut off the end of the ham - he asked why I did that and in a very superior tone I replied, " That is how a ham is cooked " . I made several during the year, each time cutting of 4 or so inches of the end. When we went home to visit, hubby told my mother that I was an excellent cook and that I even made certain the end of the ham was removed prior to cooking, which his mother never did (of course I had heard many stories about what a bad cook she was). Mom began to giggle, then snort, then guffaw .... and slowly she admitted, the only reason the end of the ham was cut off was because she didn't own a big enough pan to hold the entire ham. Talk about embarrassed!! Amber/FL RE: RE: Mashed potatoes ROTFL.......that is just priceless! For your sake I hope Zorn's never goes out of business also. Might ask for their recipe?
