Guest guest
I'm not sure but I have heard the opposite- that a lack of stomach acid leads to undigested food in the intestines. Many people here take extra digestive enzymes for this. Are you having any symptoms like stomach pain, ulcers? I don't know if I would mess with the digestive process of foods... PJ > > So, I saw my Naturopath on Tuesday, and he recommended I do a 3 month regimine of Tagamet. Apparently Crohn's can be made worse with too much stomach acid? I wasn't sure if that was any problem with me, so decided to hold off until I found more info. What is the take of people on this board? Is it even legal on SCD? Thanks! > > Pam > newfoundsun > www.newfoundsun.wordpress.com >
Guest guest
I am taking digestive enzymes, and I don't have much problem with pain, ulcers, etc. I know when I was first diagnosed, I had a very minor lack of acid, so that's another reason why I've waited to do the Tagamet and get some more info! > > > > So, I saw my Naturopath on Tuesday, and he recommended I do a 3 month regimine of Tagamet. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I am surprised that a Naturopath would suggest Tagamet. I have mastocytic enterocolitis and I take digestive enzymes with each meal. The only time I take Zantac is when I feel that I am having a severe reaction to a food since it is an H2(histamine 2), blocker and stops the reaction in its tracks. Stops me from having severe vomiting, diarrhea and palpitations and blood pressure drops. My understanding is that we need a certain amount of acid in our stomachs to kill any germs such as H.pylori that we may ingest. Take care, June > > So, I saw my Naturopath on Tuesday, and he recommended I do a 3 month regimine of Tagamet. Apparently Crohn's can be made worse with too much stomach acid? Guest guest
Apparently Crohn's can be made worse with too much stomach acid? I would think it'd be the exact opposite. Most people don't have enough stomach acid, so they can't digest their food well, which can lead to intestinal issues. Guest guest
My GI was about to start me on acid blockers (I was having stomach pains after eating, and an endoscope showed a red spot in my stomach. I told her I'd rather try taking Betaine HCl first (I really felt like I lacking stomach acid). I get no burning from the HCl, so I was right, I didn't have enough stomach acid. I'd be weary of taking Tagamet if there isn't any proof that you have too much stomach acid. Guest guest
just had an endoscopy thursday that showed a couple of spots of irritation -i had asked doc about too little acid too but he said he saw no evidence of that on the pictures - been using baking soda here/there and it helps -which route should i take if he says it's too much acid??? i do love him as a GI and he knows scd etc - but on dr mercola's website it says 95% of people with heartburn etc need more acid -thoughts???? thanks Eileen > > > > So, I saw my Naturopath on Tuesday, and he recommended I do a 3 month regimine of Tagamet. Guest guest
If it were me, I'd try HCl and see what happened. Based on how you react it should tell you if the theory of not enough acid applies to you or not. Theoretically anyway. fi
Guest guest
so is there scd legal stuff to try over the counter -and how much etc - i found it strange both my natural docs didn't mention too little acid- saw no improvement from scd compounded prevacid-interesting -but still don't know why that baking soda helped?? and what makes someone start having this problem after being fine?? thanks eileen > > If it were me, I'd try HCl and see what happened. Guest guest
This is what I use: http://www.nowfoods.com/Products/ProductsAlphabetically/M003463.htm I'd been thinking about trying Betaine HCl for a couple of years, but kept putting it off. Wish I had tried it sooner! Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > > > If it were me, I'd try HCl and see what happened. Guest guest
Eileen, I don't know why the baking soda helped you but I have a theory its not just an acid neutralizing thing in my case. I think the carbon part of the molecule may have therapeutic effects similar to activated charcoal, which is just plain old carbon without the salt that baking soda carries. My GI told me about a study they were doing with spherical carbon molecules on Crohn's patients somewhere in Asia which makes me wonder. Have you ever tried activated charcoal? Did it help? fi On Sat, Aug 14, 2010 at 1:11 PM, blackguitarmaker wrote: > > > > so is there scd legal stuff to try over the counter -and how much etc - i found it strange both my natural docs didn't mention too little acid- saw no improvement from scd compounded prevacid-interesting -but still don't know why that baking soda helped?? and what makes someone start having this problem after being fine?? > thanks > eileen
