Guest guest
Hi June, I take it in the morning. I have been told that it is most effective when taken at night, because that's when your body produces the most endorphins but, like you, I couldn't sleep so I decided to try taking it in the morning when someone on the LDN list mentioned thyroid patients taking it then. Its been a couple of months now (following a month of trying to deal with taking it at night) and it seems to be working anyway; maybe it would work even better at night but I figure sleep is a necessary tool for healing and the insomnia was terrible. fi On Fri, Aug 6, 2010 at 4:23 PM, singingdancer95128 wrote: > > > > Hi all, > > I know that there is a yahoo group devoted to this, but could people who take LDN tell me how you deal with the insomnia? Guest guest
Same with me- I take it in the morning after weeks of insomnia. I figured the same with needing sleep to heal. Guest guest
Thanks so much Fiona, I have to sleep at night or I get worse with my enterocolitis. Guest guest
When I wake up ( around 7 ). Sometimes I forget and take it a little later. June, Ironically, not everyone has this reaction. For me, LDN has resulted in deeper, more restful sleep from the beginning. I've even had to cut my melatonin in half because I was finding myself groggy during the day. Guest guest
June, It takes the body about a week (for most of us) to get used to the LDN. I was a total wreck that week! I'd wake up about 2 and take hours to get back to sleep, or not at all. Good thing I didn't schedule the dentist or anything. Since I have sleep problems anyhow, at the week mark I truly thought I'd better just pack it in, it wouldn't work. And just as suddenly, the wake-ups stopped. Like Marilyn, I now sleep deeper when I am sleeping. My other protocol requires magnificent stupendous consistent sleep, so I am doing a couple of other things as well. Gabapentin helps, also helps pain and hot flashes, yay!, and 5-HTP helps as well. I may try melatonin as I still have some trouble getting to sleep. Valerian is another possibility. Anyhow, I'd say keep on with the LDN awhile. Some people take more than a week. A few don't seem to adjust and they take it in the morning. It's still effective that way. And your other option would be to cut the dose. I started with a mere 1.0 mg. Guest guest
Shouldn't I stop it until the yeast gets cleared up? I think that its making me very depressed. I didn't take it last night and am starting to feel better this afternoon. Thanks, June > >I know that there is a yahoo group devoted to > >this, but could people who take LDN tell me how > >you deal with the insomnia? Guest guest
> Shouldn't I stop it until the yeast gets cleared up? Yes - the yeast blocks it rendering it ineffective. I'd do some anti-yeast protocol first before you start back up. Mara
Guest guest
Thanks Mara, What do you suggest, oregano oil? I have some homeopathic stuff my chiropractor gave me. Guest guest
I've heard this but I'm not sure it's necessary. Unless you feel it's doing something naughty. I kept right on taking my LDN during the 3 months with Diflucan, and although the Diflucan seemed to diminish my LDN help with auto-immune problems, it did still keep helping my immune system fight the near-constant viral attacks I'd had for years. But I wasn't depressed. LDN should increase your endorphins and those are the " feel-good " things. If you feel it's making things worse you might be happier to ditch it for awhile, though. Guest guest
Thanks , I think I'll wait to restart it when I get back from a trip to San Diego I'm taking next week. Dealing with finding safe food will be enough of a challenge. Take care, June > > > I've heard this but I'm not sure it's necessary. Unless you feel it's > doing something naughty. Guest guest
I have long-standing insomnia from a traumatic brain injury. LDN is the only thing that has given me even a brief period of restful sleep in 16 years though I started to take it for my GI issues. Though when increasing the dose, I will get a full week of crummy sleep, though pretty normal for me, and then the 3 am wake up call tends to end and the good sleep returns. Currently, I'm dealing with an apparent LDN build-up, so I have to keep taking nights off and trying to come up with the right dose to keep the good sleep coming. The signal that it's off is that I have increasing wakefulness and a long period of no sleep from 2-6 am or just waking and staying up anytime from 2 am on. But, last night, when I take a night off, the good sleep returns. What a blessing to have a decent night of sleep ! Sue R

In my case, I wasn't taking it for gut issues -- that was under control due to SCD. However, LDN is anti-cancer, and I had cancer surgery in April of 2008 (uterine), and I'd prefer it not come back. In addition, the endorphins are very good for systemic pain issues, such as those of fibromyalgia. I had those pain issues, although, once again, I was told " just stop stuffing your face and lose some weight and it'll all clear up. Oh and take some Tylenol if it bothers you -- the sugar and starch in it won't be a problem. " I've had liver issues before, and I wasn't about to risk damage to my liver taking Tylenol four times a day. Plus which, Tylenol did nothing for the pain. Many people find that LDN is very good for gut issues. In fact, there have been two double blind studies done with LDN for active Crohn's disease. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17222320 http://clinicaltrialsfeeds.org/clinical-trials/show/NCT00663117 (completed, but not yet published) Also, a study for fibromyalgia: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19453963 Other clinical studies: http://www.ldnscience.org/low-dose-naltrexone-ldn/published-research-about-ldn/clinical-trials I chose to take LDN (though it took me long enough to find someone who would prescribe it for me!) for a number of reasons, and all of the results for me have been good. At the very least, there do not appear to be any negative side effects for me, which I cannot say about many OTC drugs and even other prescription drugs. The $20 a month that it costs me from Skip's Pharmacy is less than the vitamins I take. (And in point of fact, I've been able to reduce the amount of anti-inflammatory vitamins, so the cost actually balances out.) The difference in my quality of life is astonishing. Many of the people who take LDN for Crohn's or UC report similar improvements. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
