Hi June!

Marilyn has posted some excellent suggestions. They are posted under the " Files "

menu to the left and then in the folder called " getting started " (then it's the

last article).

Are you driving or flying?

I just did a 12 hour drive and believe it or not, I never had to change the ice

packs. I set up a few small coolers- one that I wanted everything to stay frozen

in and one that would be okay at refrigeration temperature. Then I had another

with food and snacks for the day of traveling. Some food that travels well to

eat while you are flying (keep in mind that none can be liquid to get through

security) are hard boiled eggs, cold shredded chicken with bbq sauce, ripe

avocado (even if you do feel silly eating it right out of the skin!), cheese

chips, cheese slices, and squash brownies.

Whether I drive or fly, I freeze whatever I can. Obviously, you don't want to

freeze the yogurt (it will kill most of the bacteria). But, I'll freeze

everything from meat patties, to soup, to cheese chunks! Then, you have just

bought yourself hours while that stuff thaws and they tend to keep each other

cold.

If you are flying, I have found that TSA has really loosened up with ice packs.

When I started the diet almost a year ago I used frozen veggies as my ice packs.

But the last trip I took I accidentally used a blue-ice type of pack and they

didn't flinch.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I've taken 6 plane trips on SCD so

far so I've gotten into the groove of it.

Thanks Joanna,

I am just flying from San to San Diego. I will look at the files section. I

can't eat nuts right now, but I can eat boiled egg yolks, avocado and meats. I am

staying at my cousin's house and so will do most of the cooking there.

Have a good day,

June

One more tip since I know you are flying! This is just how I like to do it so

you can take it or leave it :) I have a great thermos bag I got at Target that

is soft, but has an insulated lining. Since I always know I am going to eat all

of my yogurt, I like to pack it in this so that on the way home, I can just

smush it with my clothes and it doesn't take up any room.

I also learned the hard way to definitely pack your yogurt in a container with a

SCREW lid. Otherwise, the air pressure tends to make the lid pop off- it's not a

pretty site. I use those 2 cup round ziplock plastic containers and pack as many

as I need. Then I put them in another ziplock gallon bag (just in case). Then

I'll throw in 1 ice pack. Since you have to send the yogurt into cargo, it will

stay colder there than it will with you. You shouldn't have any problems with it

then!

Have an awesome trip!

Hi Joanna,

Thanks for the info. I don't eat yogurt though. I am allergic to casein. I do

have an insulated lunch bad though where I can put my cooked carrots, banana,

meats etc.

Have a good day,

June
