Guest guest
Wow, I am so sorry that this is so hard for you. 31 surgeries! I couldn't imagine it. Please let us know how everything goes Tuesday/Wednesday. I am sure EVERYONE will be rooting for you! Let's hope this is the last surgery! Guest guest
Sara, I am so sorry you have been through so much! Wow, 31 surgeries is quite a bit for anyone to have to go through. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and fingers crossed once those plates are taken out your healing will start to improve. Hugs to You, --Caboose > > > > > Hello, > > > > I am new to this group and I posted an intro a few > > days ago. > > > > I saw my maxillofacial surgeon yesterday and after > > taking some new x-rays he was able to see that there > > is an infection in the plates or bone graft. Guest guest
Of course, I wish you luck. I'm so sorry, but I don't recall why you've had so many troubles. Could you refresh us, or is that too difficult for you? If it's painful, don't. In any case, of course I wish you success in your new undertaking. That is very many operations to repair these problems, unless you are dealing with cleft palates, severely underdeveloped jaws or other troubles of like kind. In any case, I hope that your surgeons will be able to work the wonders that many can perform, and that you will be pleased with the results. We will hold you in our thoughts. Please know that, for what it's worth, you have the care and concern of people all around the world nurturing you in your procedures. Guest guest
, I was born with a cleft lip and palate which has needed many surgeries, I have also needed other surgeries too which adds to the 31 surgeries. Thanks! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Austria, THis surgery won't be the last surgery I have, further work is needed on my nose and I also have a fistula which needs repairing and I will also need the pharyngealflap that they did 4 years ago re-done as the surgery has affected my speech. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , I will have my fingers crossed that your upcoming surgery to remove the plates on Wednesday will be your last. I have heard of a few on this board who have had their plates taken out and it was really a simple procedure. So hopefully it will be the same for you. I will be thinking about you and sending you hugs on Wednesday! --Caboose > , > > I was born with a cleft lip and palate which has needed many surgeries, I have also needed other surgeries too which adds to the 31 surgeries. > > Thanks! > > > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Oops , I missed this post when hoping that your surgery on Wednesday would be your last. But I am sure you have to be nearing that last hurdle soon. I can see light at the end of your long tunnel! Hang in there! --Caboose > Hi Austria, > > THis surgery won't be the last surgery I have, further work is needed on my nose and I also have a fistula which needs repairing and I will also need the pharyngealflap that they did 4 years ago re-done as the surgery has affected my speech. > > > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
- Caboose, Yes I am looking at 2 maybe 3 surgeries left after the one on Wednesday. But the light at the end of the tunnel is drawing nearer as far as surgery is concerned. I will have my braces on for another 4 months, and then I will be having other things done to my teeth. How fun! What surgery did you have? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , I'm hoping that the surgery will be a simple procedure and a lot easier recovery. But I have been told that due to the infection I will have to stay in the hospital longer this time for more antiobiotics until the infection has gone for sure. I was in hospital for 8 days after my surgery, and I have been backwards and forwards since I have been admitted 4 times (i think!) Thank you I will keep you posted! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , Sending you best wishes for a successful surgery, a really easy recovery (you definately are due for that one), and a successful and great result. I will also be having other surgeries for the nose after the jaw surgeries. But I agree, that you have definate light at the end of the tunnel when the infection is gone, and the final healing can begin. Wishing you the best. Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear that ! Wow, you have got to be one of the strongest people I have ever talked to. I cannot imagine going throught that many surgeries. I will definitely keep you in my thoughts. Guest guest
Austria, So far I have had a total of 30 surgeries, some people think that you get used to having surgery, but you never do. EAch surgery is different in many ways and there is always the fear of something going wrong. I didn't tell many people about my surgery I only told close family and friends. How ever people started to notice that I wasn't about and asked questions. And where I live once one person knows everyone knows! So when ever I walk out the front door know I get the 1001 questions the most popular questions is " DID IT HURT?! " and " are you better " . I have been off work for 13 weeks and I went into work last week to say hello and to give them my sick note. They didn't recognise me at first, but when they did they were really nice and shocked that one surgery could make such a difference. I was very nervous going as I didn't know what they would say. One of the first things my boss said was " ohhh it will be a while before you're back in work! " __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Fran, Thank you i'm hoping that this time recovery will be a lot easier this time round. At the moment I am more concerned about the prospect of having my hair shaved off again where they may need to re-open the scar on my head that has been healing very nicely! I also developed alopesia after the surgery due to the stress of the surgery etc and the lack of iron. I was supopsed to have my nose done after jaw surgery but my surgeon decided that he could do it the same time. Becuase of my cleft I had a small nose and the surgery would make it look even smaller, but due to lip revisions my upper lip is too long. And when I smile my teeth don't show so I had to make a choice. So we opted for the choice of having my nose done the same time as jaw surgery that way we would get the length that we want on the nose. And to have a show of teeth when I smile he was supposed to cut a section of my upper lip off during the surgery. But the surgery get too complicated and I became unstable during surgery. So I will have that done in 4 months too. Thank you. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , You are definately going through a lot with this! It does sound like you are having a really thourough process though. And that the end result will accomplish all the aspects you were wanting. It may be rough now, but in the end it sounds like you will have it all! Let us know how the surgery goes. Guest guest
, I can't imagine ANYONE getting used to surgeries, no matter how many you have. I can totally relate to the everyone knowing what is going on in your life, though. Not necessarily where I live, but in my congregation, if one person knows about the surgery - everyone knows. And there are many congregations in my area, and we all know eachother, so I cannot run into anyone who really does not know what is going on. And as much as you are touched that they care, you just do not want to think about it, or answer the same questions over and over again. Thankfully, my mother loves to talk about stuff like that, so I drag her into the conversation, get her started and then I can walk away. I am glad that this past surgery has made such a difference though! And that your office is being so good about you taking off of work. That is one of the main struggles, I know. I am fortunate, because I work for the Federal Government, and I can be part of the leave bank. I had knee surgery in November (I am only 20 years old, and need to have my other knee taken care of in the next couple of years), and was out of the office for 2 weeks. And have been using up all of my time off for Doctor's Appointments, so I have depleted my leave account. So, I am applying for the leave bank (I contributed at the beginning of the year knowing this would be an issue), and have been pre-approved for it. I just have to turn in some final paper work, and I should be able to take off as much time as I need. You gotta love working for the government! Hang in there and you will be in my thoughts! Guest guest
Austria, I can't walk out the door without seeing some one. I let me mum take over and fill everyone in as it gets tiring after a while! This surgery sure has made a difference but my mum can't wait to have the happy go lucky daughter she had before surgery. Though she understands that things are hard and that I am still in a lot of pain and I often get down. But she's always there to help cheer me up even when I snap at her for no reason though it's not intended. I only started my job in Febuary and they have been great luckily I told them about the surgery in the interview so they knew it was coming but didn't know when. I am being paid while off work too which is great and my dad's paying for my car so I have money to spend on some new clothes etc! I am 20 years old and I can't wait to get back out there with my friends to go clubbing etc Thanks for all your support! how are you? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I am doing fine, thanks for asking. I am still in the Pre-Op stages...my surgery is either August 12th or 19th. So it is getting pretty close. But I have been getting daily headaches that last anywhere from 5 minutes to all day long. so I am hoping the surgery will correct that. Well, I am about to leave work, so I will talk to you all tomorrow! Austria --- Penketh wrote: > Austria, > > I can't walk out the door without seeing some one.
