Guest guest
ee, We would be very interested in participating in this study. Just talked to the husband and he also agrees. For us it is the fact that we can not find any link to cf in either family. Would be very interesting to find out where it came from. We go back to Iowa City the end of June or begining of July (haven't made appt yet). I will talk to them when we go. If we can not get the sore and purple marks healed up it looks like we will be going sooner to get the tenotomy at around 21 months and the start of nice weather. So that should be interesting also. He wants EVERY cf family to give blood for the study. I am hoping lots of you here will feel the same sense of moral obligation we felt to help the future generations by giving a small annonomous sample to the study. For and Everett they put numbing cream on their arms first. They were scared, and yes they did scream bloody murder, but it's only a pin prick and over quickly. We insisted they do it anyway. With the promise for ice cream for lunch afterwards....and we got back and I dished up ice cream and they were good as new. Shoot, they were good as new 5 minutes after they drew blood! lol but ice cream can't hurt, right? Even the baby we volunteered and they took blood from him too. PLEASE don't let your fear or your child's fear stop you from doing this. Our grandchildren may thank us some day. It's a very small thing to do. I met 2 other mothers there who were refusing, unfortunately. We didn't push but we did try to gently change their minds on the idea. Anyway, this is my pitch. I hope anyone going to Iowa or St. Louis will volunteer their small samples to the genetic studies in the name of science and a future of less clubbed feet and better treatment options! shawnee p.s. Why did the blond nurse carry a red ink pen? So she could draw blood! Hee heee hee
Guest guest
Hi ee, Thanks for the update. I am very interested in doing this, haven't heard back from Dr. Dobbs yet about it. We will be in Iowa City on May 10, hopefully Dr. M can do it then. Just curious if the prick was really just a prick, or did they stick a needle in to extract blood? Thanks. > > Dr. M in Iowa city has teamed up with Dr. Dobbs to do the genetic study. Guest guest
It's a needle on a small tube to fill a small vile with blood but it honestly only took a minute and the nurses who did it were SOOO good, they hit the kid's veins first try, just *blip* and it was done. It was very small needles. My kids did throw major fits, I won't lie but the numbing cream is what they use for the tenotomy so I'm betting they really felt more fear than pain. s.
