I was 5'10 " but now at age 69 I've shrunk to 5 " 8 " . I have three

daughters; the oldest one is 5'8 " and we always called her " The Shrimp "

because she was shorter than her two sisters and (for a while) shorter

than I was.

My two granddaughters (one a college junior and one a college sophomore)

are both 5 " 11 " .

I think of all of us as tall.

I had two sisters; one was 4'10 " and one was 5'. Go figure.

Funny how genes work. There must have been some cute family photos.

BTW, Nina, I'm always floored when you say your age. You may be 69,

but I'll bet you don't look a day over 50! :))

Speaking of shrinking. I have been 5'1 " AND A QUARTER since I was 13. The

last 2 dexascans have shown me at 5'1 " AND A HALF. This year showed me at

5'1 " AND THREE QUARTERS, but the report said I lost height? Um, no, looks

to me like somehow I gained 1/2 " ! LOL!

I am having the opposite experience. I used to be 5'8½ " (well, a little over

5'8¼ " ). Yesterday, I went in for my bloodwork, and they decided to take my

height while I was on the scale: 5'6¼ " !

I do *not* have osteoporosis, even a little - my bone scan shows I have more

bone than most women my age (58). Tell me how it's possible that I can have

lost over 2 " in height! I do NOT like this!!

, As we age, the discs (not bone) between the vertebrae in our

spine begins to dry out and I find by the early to mid-50s many of my

patients have begun to lose height.

, has your shoe size shrunk, as well? I'm thinking that a lot

of people have large fat pads on their feet that shrink with weight

loss, too, just like the rest of us. Other than that, and I hate to

say this, but normal aging?

Yes, my feet are not as fat. However, at my tallest, I weighed only 142# and

had " normal " feet. I will reluctantly accept the " aging " descriptor,

though... :-(

Does anyone know if glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM will help maintain discs as

well as cartilage?
