It took about 1.5 years before my hair started looking decent. The only

things I can suggest is maybe to add biotin if you haven't already and

have your thyroid checked. A lot of my problem was my thyroid.

Cindy,

When you say you " get enough protein in " , what does that mean? How often,

how much, what kind of protein?

What vitamins are you using? Have you spoken to your doctor about this so

you can start eliminating health issues? Are you taking any medications?

Could be totally unrelated to the wls...several reasons could exist for hair

loss.

I had naturally thin hair to begin with but it stopped shedding. I was

afraid I was going to be bald but suprisingly I didn't get bald.

From some site I was reading about hair loss:

" According to Bark, a common cause of hair loss in women is hormonal: It's

generally either due to going on or off birth control pills or the end of

pregnancy. Both can cause telogen effluvium, a generally reversible form of

hair loss that occurs when hair goes into a resting phase.

Other potentially treatable causes of hair loss include thyroid problems,

anemia, lupus and the excess production of the androgen hormone. Hair loss

can be a side effect of medications such as ibuprofen, antidepressants,

hypertension drugs, anticoagulants and chemotherapy.

And any shock to the system, such as weight loss or gain, or emotional

stress, can trigger a hair-resting phase. All of these sources of hair loss

cannot only cause shedding and thinning if uncorrected, but may also

accelerate the progression of underlying female-pattern hair loss. "

I have noticed a bit more hair all over my clothes after

brushing/combing/shampooing too. Not getting excited yet. I too have very

thick coarse hair, and frankly in normal times it seems like I lose alot. My

hair is also long. Was to my waist, cut it to my shoulders in June when the

ends were looking particularly thin and raggedy. I have upped the protein,

and am hoping to stem the tide AND get off this plateau from hell. I want

another 10lbs gone.

I had hair down to my waist also, and had to cut it up to my shoulders

because I had lost so much that it was looking raggedy and thin. It's

finally growing back and now looks freaky because all the new hair is

pushing up the old hair or sticking up cause it's shorter than the old

hair----but I'm just happy it's growing back. I have very thick, coarse

hair and I probably lost about 75% of it when I was losing hair----luckily I

had tons of hair to lose because no one could really tell except the people

who are closest to me. It was still very depressing, especially since it

was so beautiful when it was long, I had a spiral perm so it was long and

very curly. The new hair that is growing back is different than it used to

be, it's curly and unruly---even using a curling iron it won't do what I

want it to do so I'm just waiting until it's longer to see what I have to

work with. I am also hypothyroid so I'm sure that was part of the problem.

At least it's growing back now and it looks healthy again, that's all that

matters!!

I have stock in hairspray and mousse to try to tame the new growth hairs.

Most are about 2-3 inches long now.
