Guest guest
Hello everyone - I have a question concerning the LeFort procedure (from me: what else is new?). Anyway, I was wondering about the tip of the nose turning upwards after Maxillary Advancement. Is this a temporary condition or does it stay that way after all the swelling goes away? My Surgeon told me not to worry about it, but I already have a " pug " nose of sorts and I don't need to have a " Miss Piggy " nose as an added complication to a procedure that I haven't exactly agreed to yet. To all you LeFort surgery veterans out there: Is this something I need to be concerned with? Any suggestions and/or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I told my Surgeon that I'd be willing to get a Rhinoplasty if my nose turns up and stays that way, but he says I have a great nose and not to concern myself about this. (Actually, I would love to get a nose job anyway because I've never liked my nose and it may not " fit " my new face once I've had the BSSO & LeFort done.) Sorry to be so vain about all this, especially in light of the fact that so many of you are having recovery issues right now. Thank you in advance for any replies. ~~~~~ Diane
Guest guest
Honestly, I don't know. If my surgeon told me not to worry, I wouldn't. But then I had an easy trip. Ask him what that alar stitch is, and whether it would be useful for you. You've told him what you're worried about, so I think you'll probably get what you need. But since you seem to continue to be worried about it, reinforce that with him. C. > Hello everyone - I have a question concerning the LeFort procedure > (from me: what else is new?). Guest guest
Hi Diane, Regarding Leforts and turned up noses. I don't think you're being vain at all and your question is a valid one. Afterall - the first thing everyone looks at when we go out anywhere is the face. I can understand your concern. I had a Lefort last month (along with other procedures). The look of my nose improved a lot actually. The best thing though is that the function of my nose is much better than before the surgery. Before surgery my nose was a bit on the long side for my face, but by having the Lefort procedure, it brought my face forward enough that my nose now looks way shorter and smaller. It's a nice benefit that I didn't know I'd have. I had a lot of nasal problems my whole life, and before this surgery was done, I'd had four other nasal operations to help my breathe better. Those other nose surgeries were a waste of a lot of time and money on my part, because nothing was going to improve my nasal function without the Lefort. If only I had known about this years ago, but I didn't - so live and learn I guess. My nose doesn't have an upturned appearance to it...it's just a shorter nose now, with a different, but much better shape. I've never cared for the look of my nose before either, but now I really love it - plus I can breathe out of my nose! Try not to worry about how your nose will look after the surgery. Like you said you could always have a rhinoplasty if you really hated the result. I'm not trying to make it sound like it's no big deal, because it is, but just trying to point out that if worse came to worse and you didn't like how your nose looked after everything's all healed, you could have it re-done. Take care, Judy
