Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm at home resting and doing well. I had upper and lower jaw surgery on June 28th and was at the hospital for 2 days. My surgery was 7 hours. My doctor said I didn't have any complications during surgery. I did not have any problems with nausea or vomiting with the anesthesia. My nose and cheeks are still very numb and swollen. The doctor said it may take 6 weeks before my face looks normal. It's very important that you have someone taking care of you and making sure you take your pain medications. I have been taking pain meds every 4 hours which causes nausea so I also have to take something else for my nausea. I'm very thankful to have my husband care for me. He's been very wonderful and supportive through this time. I haven't had any problems with congestion either. I have a nose spray that the doctor prescribed to use twice a day, but don't really need it. My lips are very cracked and dried especially at the corner of my lips. I have a lip oinment that I apply twice daily to help relieve the dryness. The biggest challenge is eating. I would advise anyone who will be having this surgery to get the zip-n-squeeze bags. I got the hospital pack and used them while I was at the hospital. The nurses and doctors were very impressed with them. I use them while taking my pain meds and use them to have my juices and soups. I was getting really tired of soup so my husband got me some gravy today. It was a nice treat, something different from chicken and rice soup. It takes me so long to eat that I am tired by the time that I'm done. I will post some pics this week. I have a follow up visit with my doctor this Wednesday. Thank you all for your advise pre-surgery and your support! I'm now on the other side Kay
