Guest guest
, your too funny....lol. If you can tolerate mild tasting fish you might be better off. Tuna can be pretty strong tasting. I know with me I had to add a lot of mayo, pickle relish, eggs, and anything else I can find to it...lol. It's all trial and error to see what we can tolerate and can handle. Guest guest
here's a different topic for ya. just think of those milestones you'll be making on the losing side. i am almost 4 months out and since surgery i have been able to accomplish: 1) moving the seat up in my car two notches 2) wearing two sizes smaller 3) not having to take the medicines i was prior to surgery including my blood pressure meds 4) not having to wear my CPAP machine for sleep apnea anymore...yahooooooo 5) being able to bend over and touch my toes (well almost....lol) 6) being able to sit in a booth at a restaurant 7) able to wear heels again (2 " inches anyways) all that and only 4 months out. i can't wait to see my list when i reach my goal!!!!! you should make yourself a list of goals you would like to accomplish and then date them when each one has been reached. something i wish i had done. at least i can estimate for the things i already have accomplished and date the rest when they happen. laurette 4/23/04 open rny 309/290/240/
Guest guest
Dora, I feel the same as you do. It is so nice to be a part of a great group like this. When I have those times when I think I'm all alone in what I'm going through, I know I can come here and you all get me through it with your experience and encouragement. Thanks and God bless. Guest guest
, Instead of focusing on tuna which is quite " fishy " , you might want to try fish that isn't fishy like: tilapia, flounder, swordfish, fresh tuna (not canned), shark (mako), etc. You can marinade these and bake them or grill or broil them and they'll taste great. Guest guest
, There is also a fish that you can get in the freezer section. I believe that Gordon's makes one and maybe another brand. They are grilled fillets that are lemon pepper, and other types of ways prepared. You just pop it in the microwave in the plastic container and nuke it. They are a milder fish than tuna. You might try one of these and see if you can tolerate it that way. They are very healthy and are not fried or anything like that. It is worth at least a try. Guest guest
Wow Kathy, hadn't thought of the other less fishy one's. Thanks for the list and I will work something out. I'm a fish eater but I don't like the strong ones though I do like salmon which is more fatty than fishy. Had it leftover for lunch in fact. My fiance is easy to cook for and has been eating what I eat...only his is pureed for now. Everything seems to be sitting well with him thus far. He's had canned tuna, fresh salmon, tilapa, pork and lots o' chicken. And egg beaters, cottage cheese, etc. Kathy fiance Rich open RNY 8/5/2004
Guest guest
Sounds good! I buy the fishsticks and bake them for the kids when they are here but for me to eat them they have to be smothered in the red sweet stuff. I think we might go shopping and I can test some of these grilled fillets and a few other things before next month. Thanks Dora! > , > > There is also a fish that you can get in the freezer section. Guest guest
> I think we might go shopping and I can test > some of these grilled fillets and a few other things before next > month. We did some preop sampling before Rich's surgery. We bought protein shakes and drinks, vitamins, and foods recommended by the nutritionist. It is great to do that though some people's sense of taste differs post surgery. We stocked up on some of this stuff so we had a good supply before he got home. It made the post surgery transition easy and there was no panic to run out to find something he could eat. Guest guest
, We don't put it in the blender but we have a blender stick and it came with a little container with a blade in it. We put the food in there and then process it to puree. It is more like a small food processor. Here is a picture of it and you can see the processing cup in the background. Guest guest
Can't say that is all that is discussed but it seem like a common topic we all can relate to. But previously they would ask a question then it seemed we'd stay on that be it related to family, self issues or actually anything really. If you ever want to chat or write off group feel free too. My email is iamllu@yahoo dot com. I cherish all the friends I have found here. > As did i and to be honest it was pretty nasty to look at and smell. Guest guest
No , that's certainly not all that is discussed, but please understand dealing with food and learning how to handle cravings and learning how to eat becomes a major issue after surgery. If you haven't been here long it may seem that it's the main topic, but it just flows with the posts. Some will be about the surgery, some about exercise, books, websites, etc. Just post what you feel like posting and others will do the same. Everyone has to become comfortable in their own way. Best of luck, it's a great board, I love these guys! I've been posting here since not long after my surgery 4/9/04 and have just hit 75 pounds gone forever and I'm so thankful that I have people out there I can talk to whenever I need them about anything. Thank you all!!! Lap RNY April 9, 2004 348/274/140 (begin/current/goal) www.carrieburns.net > As did i and to be honest it was pretty nasty to look at and > smell. Guest guest
, The topics seem to move from day to day. Some days it is trying to figure out what we can safely eat or giving each other advice on how to get their protein in. I too have a bad relationship with food, but I look at it as a learning process on how I can do what I do better. Some days we might discuss infections or constipation or just about anything. You just happen to be here on a day when someone is needing some food based advice. Just hang in there. And look at it from a learning perspective, because after this surgery your way of eating will be so foreign you too might need some help in working through it.
