Liver Counts

I've been having ongoing issues with anemia so my gastro is sending

me to a hematologist. His nurse called today and said now my liver

counts are also abnormal. I'm a bit overwhelmed because I've also

been dealing with abdominal pain and have had a colonoscopy, upper

endoscopy and this Friday, have an upper GI scheduled. I remember

the doctor saying that even though my gall bladder was taken out in

March, I could possibly have gall stones in the liver or pancreas

ducts. I also think he said it can't be tested because of the

gastric bypass. Anyway, has anyone experienced this kind of

blockage in the ducts and if so, how do they treat it??

I can only address the enzymes: I had elevated enzymes on a test during my

treatment with liquid iron. I was concerned because it seemed like

everything was going to hell.

However, the liver test was back to normal the next time. Perfectly normal.

Liver enzymes can be raised temporarily as a result of things as

innocuous/beneficial as strenuous weight-bearing exercise. So don't despair

quite yet about the enzymes and wait and see what the next test shows.

Good luck!

:

A few years ago my docs thought that I may have a retained common bile

duct stone and I had a type of MRI called an MRCP where it just scans

the biliary tract and such. Bypass or no bypass, you can have that test.

Our staples are titanium so we are able to have MRI's. A friend of mine

ended up with a collapsed common bile duct about three months after her

wls. She was in a tremendous amount of pain and it took the docs over

seven months of treatment to fix it.

Ask him about the MRCP. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks to all of you for the great input! Come to find out, the

nurse who told me my liver counts were abnormal was wrong. The

doctor was quite upset that I was told this. He said that 2 of the

3 readings were elevated but not enough to be concerned about. I'm

going to start taking milk thistle as a couple of you have suggested.

Thanks again,
