Guest guest
You might want to consider asking your Pedi about giving your child Primadophilus while using the band. (except if allergic to milk/dairy.) I asked our Pedi about it with our 1st child and she has always allowed me to give it to our children. I recommend giving it before bed. If there is a lot of yeast in the system, it can release gas as the yeast are killed off. They tend to sleep though it better than being awake during this time. Also, especially use this a few days after starting antibiotics (some doctors say when finished, but by then, you may already have a major yeast infection) to keep up the beneficial bacterial flora present and prevent other illnesses from coming on b/c of the antibiotic killing off everything. Our kids ask for their " vitamins " . They kid's versions are chewable and taste great. They are kept refrigerated, so you may need to ask the pharmacist for the (plain) powder for your infant or toddler or check the frig section of the vitamin aisle. Here is what Dr. Sears says about it: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T080400.asp ACIDOPHILUS This is a powder form of the normal, friendly bacteria that live in our intestines (called flora). Our intestinal flora helps regulate our digestion and stool patterns. Yeast also lives in our intestines. The yeast and the bacterial flora are constantly competing for space, and generally they keep each other in check. Sometimes, however, our bacterial flora can get depleted, such as when taking antibiotics. This allows the yeast to overgrow, which can then lead to a variety of problems. Taking acidophilus replenishes our bacterial flora and reduces overgrow of yeast. Dr. Sears suggests: Take an acidophilus supplement, or try another probiotic like Culturelle®, one capsule daily. Culturelle contains another beneficial probiotic strain, Lactobacillus GG. HOW TO TAKE IT Acidophilus is available at most health food and nutrition stores. It comes in two forms -- capsules and powder. * Adults - take the capsules as directed on the bottle. * children - capsules are ok if able to swallow, otherwise give 1 teaspoon of the powder once a day in milk, juice, or food. * Infants - make a paste using water or breastmilk and rub this once a day in baby's mouth, or put 1 teaspoon of the powder in formula once a day if bottlefeeding.
