According to the Twinlabs website, 4 wafers has 1000 mg elemental

calcium.

OK, gang, here's a quickie science lesson. :-) If you get a really good

gram scale (ask at your doctor's office, if it's a big clinic and has a

lab somewhere) and WEIGH the tablets, you can figure out roughly how

much elemental calcium is in there, because calcium citrate is roughly

21% elemental calcium. So, those 4 wafers SHOULD weigh about 5 grams

(5000 mg) -- though they probably weigh more than that, because

something chewable like that will have more binders, flavors, and

sweeteners. It does work really, really well for tablets intended to be

swallowed.

I have gone on a crusade to learn everything I need to know about

calcium, and I got that great information (above) from my vet -- go

figure -- when we were having a discussion about the ratio of calcium

and phosphorus that puppies need to have in their diets to grow strong

bones. He came right out and said that dogs that need to be supplemented

should be supplemented with calcium citrate because carbonate can be

contaminated with heavy metals and it's hard on the kidneys. I about

fell over. Here I have a suburban vet preaching to me the correct

calcium information when our much-higher-paid bariatric surgeons can't

get their sorry asses into the 21st century by reading up on ten year

old research!!

Re: Re: Liquid, chewable or powdered calcium

I take the twin labs chewable, along with the Citracal Plus. I must

have read a million times from you and others about the importance of

" elemental "

duh! I just read the bottle of twinlabs chewables and can't find the

word elemental anywhere on it - it just says Calcium, from calcium

citrate tetrahydrate 1000mg (in 4 wafers.)

hmmm wonder if this is why I still suffer from night time cramping.

Do you know what it means if it doesn't say elemental on the label?

Thanks,

Joanie
