Hi - A lot of people ask this question, but it's a bit hard to

answer because if we had to have the surgery again, then why would it

be any different? Why didn't the first one work and when's it going

to end? If it's relapse, then why wouldn't the 2nd surgery relapse,

and the 3rd, and the 4th, etc.. If I think of it that way, I'm unable

to give a yes or no 'cause it depends on many factors.

But, if someone were to take me back and time and ask if I would do it

again, I'd say yes without hesitation. Granted, I'm only 6 weeks post-

op and don't know what awaits me a couple of years from now. But I

wish I had done this long ago when I was given the choice between

braces and surgery the first time. Yes, recovery and cost suck, but

it's such a small price to pay.

Hi Yann,

The reason I ask is simply that it's one way to determine the general

attitude of a person towards the experience they went through. Actually, in

my own personal case I've already had the operation once, 25 years ago with

a complete relapse...but I was only 15 at the time.My memory is not very

accurate anymore and I was contemplating going through it again. I am

confident that it wouldn't relapse again because of improved techniques and

also due to the fact that at 15, I still had a lot of growing to do, so it's

no wonder things moved around a lot. I do feel a lot of grief that I endured

so much for nothing....probably one of the reasons I want the problem fixed

once and for all.

Thank you for your answer. I suppose it is the kind of answer we'd all like

to hear...and as you said there are so many factors (e.g. severity of

problem, personality, expectations, severity of pain experienced, fear,

family support........etc)

I am 4 1/2 months post op from a Laforte. I have numbness of my nose

and upper lip cuspid to cuspid. I never know if my nose is running

or if I have anything on my face. Basically I feel like I have a

cast on my face. I would never do this again!!!!!! Just thinking

about living like this the rest of my life depresses me. I never eat

in public anymore because I don't know what my face is doing. Look

long and hard at other options before doing surgery ---

,

I'm only 6 days post-op. At this point, if after all was said and

done I ended up back where I started from ... I'd have to say that

I'd stay there - wouldn't go through it again. But, I'm swollen,

black and blue, in pain and cranky :) so my answer might change down

the line. Most folks I've read on this site that are way past their

surgery date - would do it again, I think. They are satisfied. I

sure hope I will be!

If you keep track, I'd be interested to know how many positive and

how many negative responses you get!

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your situation. I've heard about

feeling coming back sometimes quite a while after surgery. Perhaps

that is still an option? I will keep hope for you for that to be the

case.

As an aside, I really appreciate the honesty on this site -

especially in this post.

If my bite reverted I can say i would not go through it again because

what if it continued to return?? However I had my lower moved back so

they took bone out and I feel it was less likely to return to the way

it was with that said I love my results and am glad I did it!!

I'm only about 1 week out of surgery, but as of now....no way would

I go through this again. Some things are just not ment to be.
