Guest guest
Terry,Have no idea about S. thermophilus and PANDAS, but...You can make yogurt with just acidophilus. For example, if you can get ahold oferivan yogurt for a starter - it is made just with acidophilus.http://erivandairy.com/default.aspxOr you could use just the lyosan acidophilus powder from the supplements to do it. Hi guys-- I just realized that my kid who has no immunity to strep and has PANDAS is eating the yogurt which has S. thermophilus in it. But I read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus_thermophilus and I interpret this to mean that the strep helps to ferment the milk but is destroyed in the stomach. What do you think? Guest guest
It's great yogurt. And even if you can't find it in RI, your dad should be able to get hold of some in the NJ area. Mara > Thanks Mara-- I'll look for it. In the meantime I bought some acidophilus capsules for him and I'll have to do some research. > The Erivan looks like the kind of yogurt we grew up with, with the cream on top. > > Terry > > >> >>> >>> >>> Hi guys-- >>> >>> I just realized that my kid who has no immunity to strep and has PANDAS is eating the yogurt which has S. thermophilus in it. Guest guest
Good idea. they have it at my WFs in NYC. If they don't already carry it, maybe they can special order some? Mara > I'm wondering if we can find it at Whole foods. I also think I can just give him the Erivan and not necessarily have to make yogurt for him as he really doesn't have any gut issues ( thank god!) > > But I will ask my Dad to look for it. > Thanks. > > >>>> >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> Hi guys-- >>>>> >>>>> I just realized that my kid who has no immunity to strep and has PANDAS is eating the yogurt which has S. thermophilus in it. There was a discussion some time back on this list about a Mom whose child had PANDAS who had decided to get individual strains of l. bulgaricus and l. acidophilus from Custom Probiotics and use it to make a cultured milk which would have little or not lactose because she planned to used the long fermentation of SCD. It can't technically be called " yogurt " because the official designation of yogurt requires both s. thermophilus and l. bulgaricus, but it would be a good quality fermented milk. I think Mara mentioned a yogurt... Erivan, was it? Or <g>, is that a brand of water? that is fermented with just acidophilus. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

Erivan yogurt calls itself yogurt and doesn't have those two probiotics. Heh, sold in all the best stores and totally illegal! Bonus! Heh, sold in all the best stores and totally illegal! Bonus! Not sure I'd call it a bonus. It merely demonstrates that a company can find a way around USDA rulings if they want to. This instance may work in some people's favor. Other instances may not. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
