Guest guest
I think there are a few that are, I think that is what Tracie is doing now as she ran out options for medication, and hear she is doing really well, she is taking a break right now, trying to get her life back on track, as she got really ill, I know she is doing better now. I seem to be doing good where I'm at so afraid to change anything if you know what I mean. MarlaJust one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too is just today:) Hi All, Is anyone else following the Inflammation Free Diet Plan? My doctor recommended to me, and I have been following it. My CRP level was 12.5 - 10 being chronic issue/problem. Since NS deals with inflammation the diet seems to be something that would be good. I have been following it for 1 month - at the same time taking the 100mg of Pred. I have actually lost weight each week (I do walk once a day for 35-45 minutes). I also have had very little issues with blood sugar rising as the doctor tole me that taking Pred. causes some people to become diabetic and the diet helps eliminate the roller coaster of rising blood sugar levels. I also have been supplementing with the following (D3 and B6 by doctor the rest I investigated) - some of which is included in the recommendations from the book: Fish Oil (3600 mg) - Omega 3 Cod Liver Oil 1 capsule Evening Primrose Oil 3500 with 50 GLA (supposed to help w/nerve damage) Acai 1000 mg (anti-inflammatory) D3 50,000 units every other day for 20 days, then 1 time a week (I had extremely low levels) B6 - 25 mg (I had extremely low levels) Ginkgold Eyes with bilberry (good for brain/eye) I checked with the pharmacist about all of the above and they were okayed to go with the steroids. I have had some headaches and found that the gingob could be due to that though. Anyone else taking a holistic route? KP
Guest guest
We did the Low Food Chemical Diet earlier this year (for my daughter's sake, who has food allergies) - and it unexpectedly helped ME quite a lot. My overall pain levels were a bit lower, and I had much less brain fog (not sure if that was from sarcoid or fibromyalgia). It's a bloody pain to be on, but now that I know I've prob got sarcoid, and maybe those were the symptoms it alleviated in me, I might consider going back onto it from time to time. I don't think I could do it constantly, tho. I don't know if it's the same as a low inflammation diet - but it has no food additives, no food colouring (not even naturally occurring ones), no salicylates, no strong flavours (only spices allowed are salt, citric acid, garlic and saffron), no preservatives, etc. You can read about it here if you're interested : http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/ Cheers, > I think there are a few that are, I think that is what Tracie is doing now as she ran out options for medication, and hear she is doing really well, she is taking a break right now, trying to get her life back on track, as she got really ill, I know she is doing better now. > I seem to be doing good where I'm at so afraid to change anything if you know what I mean. > > Marla > Just one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too > is just today:) > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > Is anyone else following the Inflammation Free Diet Plan? Guest guest
There are a number of us who are trying to integrate healthier nutrition & activity choices into our lifestyles. At the Indy Sarc retreat last weekend there were a number of brochures on CAM (Complimentary & Alternative Medicine). I think more people are wanting to be proactive, rather than just rely on a doctor to prescribe a pill, then another pill for the side effects of pill #1, and so on. Research has shown that even small amounts of exercise are beneficial. There are nursing homes with the Wii game, with games like bowling that folks can do while sitting. I definitely think that choosing foods to decrease inflammation is a wise choice. The problem for me is sorting through the explosion of information on nutrition & avoiding getting taken in by fads. If you have insurance it may pay for at least a consultation with a dietician, to ensure that you are getting adequate nutrients. Most of us eat far more protein than we need, and it's not always the healthiest protein around! So we're back to research, research, research. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
Slowly ... I can still write and read my work, but it's slow going, I have to double check everything to make sure I haven't made any stupid mistakes. Prednisolone is screwing with my mental abilities, so I'm having trouble focusing on work. I've done a complete spring cleaning of the house, though, in the past 2 weeks! Although I'm not sleeping well, and have fibromyalgia / fatigue problems, I still seem to have a lot more energy, so have been whizzing about clearing out closets, de-cluttering, and all sorts of things! Almost like 'nesting instinct' - I'm taking advantage of it while it lasts! My daughter moved out of home last weekend (she's 19), and that has precipitated a lot of clearing out and rearrangement of rooms etc too. Guest guest
Don't forget that CAM that's been proven to work is called " medicine " ... don't discount the standard meds too quickly, they are proven rigorously to be effective, after all Definitely agree about the exercise, it has wide ranging benefits for mental health, long-term mental acuity, emotional benefits, as well as physical stuff! I've got an exercise bike which is handy for days when I don't feel up to a walk. I also have congenital hip dysplasia, and had a total hip replacement last November, so have been in lots of rehab / physio for the past year. Sarcoid is just the icing on the cake for me :/ Cheers, ------------------------------------------------------------ Cracking Codes and Cryptograms for Dummies http://tinyurl.com/CodesandCryptograms Word Searches for Dummies http://tinyurl.com/WordSearches Follow me on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/pages/-Sutherland/149144697766 ------------------------------------------------------ > There are a number of us who are trying to integrate healthier nutrition & activity choices into our lifestyles. Guest guest
Oh my, I don't think I'd be able to follow that for long. What about my jalapenos?!? And I use a lot of--crud, I can't remember the name of it; it's yellow & supposed to lower cardiovascular risk, I think. Maybe it'll come back to me soon. It's not saffron! I do love garlic, so I could flavor everything with garlic. My dang cat Dude is bugging the heck out of me. I guess he can't figure out why I'm still up in my recliner. He keeps trying to sit on the keyboard, smacking me in the face with his tail, etc. I need to write shorter answers if I want to get this done tonight. Guest guest
Oh, man! I can barely do the crossword, let alone write one! I do the daily one in our little local paper, but forget about Sunday! I like to do Sodoku, but in our paper they get harder as the week goes on. I was able to do M/T/W, but today's (well, yesterday's now) got me stuck. So I'll cheat off Friday's & get one or two boxes filled in, then try to finish it. I rarely get the Saturday one figured out, but I keep trying because I imagine that it's still good for the ol' brain cells to try! Guest guest
Cleaning on my side of the world too. I seem to have a lot of nervous energy and clean all the time. I am currently working on cleaning out bedroom closet, which is causing such a mess in my bedroom because I had crammed so much junk in the closet. The funny thing is last year at this time I was teaching full time and going to school full time - along with being a wife and a mother. I currently feel about that busy with the cleaning I am doing and well all the stupid doctors appointments. I actually have to have days that I actually say - no matter what I will not go to the doctor today because I just have to rest - and hope nothing goes wrong with me...that I have to say is kind of weird. Nice chatting online with you. KP > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > Is anyone else following the Inflammation Free Diet Plan? My doctor recommended to me, and I have been following it. Guest guest
said it was a low food chemical diet, so I guess that's different from an anti-inflammation diet. I never could remember the name of that spice, so I gave up & looked in the kitchen cabinet! Turmeric! I use that a lot. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. > > > > > > > > I also have been supplementing with the following (D3 and B6 by doctor the rest I investigated) - some of which is included in the recommendations from the book:> > > > > > > > Fish Oil (3600 mg) - Omega 3> > > > Cod Liver Oil 1 capsule> > > > Evening Primrose Oil 3500 with 50 GLA (supposed to help w/nerve damage)> > > > Acai 1000 mg (anti-inflammatory)> > > > D3 50,000 units every other day for 20 days, then 1 time a week (I had extremely low levels)> > > > B6 - 25 mg (I had extremely low levels)> > > > Ginkgold Eyes with bilberry (good for brain/eye)> > > > > > > > I checked with the pharmacist about all of the above and they were okayed to go with the steroids. Guest guest
I remember doing that when I was on Pred. now I can't take it, it makes me crazy, really nuts. But my Mom moved in with us a few months ago, and decided to move my daughter into another room, and put my Mom in hers as it was bigger, and boy was that ever a chore, but a good way to get rooms cleared out:) I wish I had the energy now to continue and clean more rooms out, but I look at it and it's overwhelming, so I just close the door, my dinning room is full of stuff to give away, but I don't want to call anyone until I have all the stuff ready to go, I think that won't happen, so better call them, and start on the next round, fun times. MarlaJust one day at a time, That's all God ask of us. for there never really is a tomorrow, as that too is just today:) Slowly ...
