Guest guest
I admit to not having done much homework before choosing an OD and OS -- I just went with who my dentist recommended -- turns out she went to school with my OD and my OS is his golfing buddy. Ugh. So 2 years later, I'm frustrated with my OD (total lack of communication, way behind his projections of how long everything will take, never know what he's working on and what's next, needs to be done) and not sure about my OS. I started asking questions recently, and have found that his rate of numbness post-surgery is 20%. Does that seem high? Where could I get references on him? - > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] Re: 9 month update.. >Date: Tue, 12 Jul 2005 22:12:23 -0000 > >Hi B, >I think you have made an excellent point about getting references >prior to chosing a surgeon or OD. Guest guest
Thank you, Cammie and Sara, He said mild numbness especially of the lip, his example was having a piece of scrambled egg on your lip and not knowing it. I'm calling now to get some more details. >From: ceast36532 <no_reply > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] >Re: 9 month update.. >Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 22:59:17 -0000 > >I'd want to know more about what he means when he says his rate of >numbness is 20 percent. > >If he means that 20 percent of his patients who have the surgery have >some temporary numbness, even a little; or if he means that 20 >percent of his patients have considerable permanent numbness. Guest guest
I tried talking to him a few times without luck. I've told one of the technicians and she tried to pin him down for me. He gets defensive and says that things are coming along, takes time, all his patients want their braces off yesterday. Once the receptionist suggested making an appt. earlier in the day when he isn't as busy and blocked out plenty of time for me. I called to confirm that the appt. would include a consult. and brought my boyfriend as a backup. The day of, he told me I was ready to go. I reminded him about the meeting and he seemed annoyed and left me sitting there while he worked on other people. Then he finally came back and agreed to talk to us, but didn't even take us to the consult room, so I had to talk to him with everyone in the room listening. He did the usual " good progress, " " getting there " lines, so my boyfriend asked a couple of questions. Then he acted like I wasn't even there. He told me I'd be having surgery in the spring, then said Sept., now is saying he doesn't know, but all along he's been saying good progress, etc. He took molds a couple of months ago and said that they looked good. I don't understand it. >From: ceast36532 <no_reply > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] >Re: 9 month update.. >Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 23:02:02 -0000 > >One other suggestion: >Perhaps if you ask for an appointment with your orthodontist just to >discuss your treatment plan, and tell him that you do not understand >what he's doing, the sequence, nor what to expect, you'll get some >conversation. > >That's what I did. I never got the separate appointment (at the first >one, he just showed me the drawings, pointed out several angles that >were way off, told me some numbers and shrugged and said, " It's just >that everything is all off.
