Makes me think of alcoholics -- they do not decide that they will go the rest of their life without alcohol. They just decide that TODAY they will go without it. Then, tomorrow, they think about it and decide again. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I must say that I have found abstention is the route for me. I have been off sugar for several months now and I haven't felt better. I have added some atkins products that I bake at home. Especially good are the lemon poppy muffins - YUM! They have 3 carbs each and about 10 gms of protein. They don't make me dump nor do they make me crave more. Each time you have your weekly sugar fix you may be starting the whole cycle again. This is why I abstain. Good luck Marjie 12/9/99 -140 Sugar-Free and Low Carb I have been struggling with the fact that I love sweets way too much. So I decided to try a test this week. My test was to try to go sugar-free for the rest of my life and see how I did. Here are my results.... I managed to go for 5 days sugar-free and was totally ANGRY about it. I did fine during the day, but at night after dinner.... when I was used to having something sweet.... that was when I started to get angry. But yesterday, at the office, we had a birthday celebration which included a BIG COOKIE. I did not make it through the day without eating some of that cookie. So now... I am going to try a new test. For the next month or more, I am going to try to go sugar-free and low carb for six out of seven days. Fridays are going to be my special treat day. I believe that perhaps I can go six days a week without sugar and low carbs, if I know I can have some at least once a week. So, for those of you who try to live without sugar in your life and low carb, what is your feed-back on this idea? Guest guest
I use splenda sweets. They're low carb and sweet. You don't have to be without sweets if you're low carbing it. Right now, I'm working my way through a bag of low carb protein bars that I made - and they're certainly sweet enough. Or you could make a single serving of low carb ice cream. I find that if I say I'm going to deny myself something forever, I want to eat a ton of it. Rebellious little mind... Guest guest
Why not just go TODAY sugar free? The forever stuff is depressing to me, too. But to plan on " treat day " , to me, is like planning punishment day! That's the day you'll feel hungry again, and defeated and at the bottom of the heap. And Sat back in withdrawal. It's only the FIRST Peep I can't have, not no Peeps ever. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Yes, I totally agree. Sorry for another AA analogy but there is a saying the first drink is to many and 100 are never enough. If ya don't take the first one you don't have to worry about the other 99. Guest guest
I say anything that works for you...GO FOR IT! It's so hard to say what will work for someone because our motivations and habits and personalities are so different. One thing I made sure of not to do anymore is beat myself up when I fall. This enables me to put my energy from my normal guilt back into getting back onto the horse. This works for me. I do fall, but I get back up and more importantly, I forgive/love myself. Guilt is very powerful...in a bad way. Guilt would drive me to avoid doing the good because I figured once I messed up.../shrug might as well keep it going. Almost like I would feel more guilty going back to the good after I messed up..which gave way to..if I screw up on tuesday on my diet, I can " just start again next monday " . Now I say, next meal I start! I have NOT screwed up! Is that clear as mud? LOL. Sherra Sugar-Free and Low Carb > > I have been struggling with the fact that I love > sweets way too much.
