Guest guest
Honey, that sounds terrible! Did you call your doctor? With a snapping sound and pain like that, you really should! Don't feel bad about taking the meds when you need them; that's what they're for. But do call your doctor, if you haven't already. Good luck! Guest guest
Sher first of all, did you have rigid fixation? If so then I doubt that the joint actually snapped physically. It sounds like the snapping noises I have been getting which are really scary and sometimes painful. I have found that eating a lot tires out my bones and jaw a lot, as well as talking of course. We need to be easy on ourselves and it's hard when you think that you're all healed when in fact you're not. Oh and sucking on a cookie, I don't advise that. For me somehow the sucking action seems to strain all the muscles in my jaw and give me a headache. But that's just me. I'm scared as it is to eat because I don't want to shift anything. Anyway, the snapping noises you are hearing are pretty normal because your bones and joints are settling into their new position and they're being cranky about it. I would definitely flag your concerns to your OS of course, especially the constant pain and headaches you have. I'm so sorry to hear you had a tough day. Hold on tight. I'm sure there's a rational explanation to it all and soon you'll feel better. Sending you a huge virtual hug. Sara > HI Everyone, > > I am 23 days post op today and really discouraged. Guest guest
Sorry you have scary troubles. Probably, they are not so scary as you think. But call your doc(s). They are the ones who know. Guest guest
Hi Sherry, Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope you've called your surgeon by now, even if things feel better today. He/she needs this information. And yes, ups and downs are normal. My massage therapist told me that I'd have good days and bad days. Fortunately I didn't have any bad days, but it was helpful to know that I might. 23 days is still way early in your recovery, and if it were me, I'd be laying back and letting things heal on their own. " Pushing it " as you say, even if you feel better, is not the best approach. Try to be patient and take it easy! Hope that helps, > HI Everyone, > > I am 23 days post op today and really discouraged. Guest guest
Hi Sherry, I second what Cammie recommended. You need to call your surgeon right away. They can assure you that it is a normal situation, or help you to deal with it if it is not. Sending you best wishes on this. Let us know what you find out! Guest guest
Thanks guys....I apprecite the concern! Nice to now someone cares..I think I know what happens. I put food in my mouth and then accidently move my jaw to the side! The OD & OS told me not to worry b.c there are so many screws and plates in my mouth that it is not going anywhere! But jaw still in the very acute healing stage.... Take care & heal well. I overdid it again today and just got dropped off back oat home (Out celebrating Canada Day) so I am going to lie down! I will check in later. Sher > > > HI Everyone, > > > > > > I am 23 days post op today and really discouraged. Guest guest
For whatever it's worth... My surgeon's partner, who assisted in the surgery, and saw me the first post-op appointment after lower advancement, told me the only way I was apt to hurt myself was if I fell. I have balance problems, and told him that was a likely happening. He said, " You will not fall. If you think you will, just sit down. " I haven't exactly figured out how to do that, but he was right. I didn't injure my jaw -- and I was very, very careful to be sure that was the outcome.
