Guest guest
Hi Cathy, I'm doing a lot better now. Today is my 7 week mark! WOO HOO! It's unbelievable to look back and see how much progress I've made over the weeks and how much easier each day gets. Thinking back to the rough times in the first two weeks, it really is unbelievable. I saw Dr T. about a week and a half ago and I'm seeing him again Saturday. As for the broken wrist it ended up being broken ribs......HAH there was some miscommunication between them and the receptionist when they called and that message was relayed to his patients. When I finally saw him when he got back from Italy it was his ribs and not his wrist. He fell off a bike and broke 3 ribs. PAINFUL! I know his dates are now backlogged but he's adding in more days to clear the backlog by working saturdays etc. As for my pictures, I actually decided not to take any. I will post a before and after when all of the swelling has gone down but really I didn't want any memories of this time to look back on. I'd rather not remember how I looked all puffy, swollen and bruised. So pictures will follow soon, hopefully the swelling does go down more soon! > Hi Rina, > how are you doing? Guest guest
Hi Rina, Congrats on your 7th week anniversary! Glad to hear that Dr T only broke his ribs and not his wrist. Still functional as a surgeon that way! (although I maintain he could probably do this surgery with one hand tied behind his back) > > Hi Rina, > > how are you doing? Guest guest
Hi Rina, I am so happy to hear you are doing so much better. Congratulations on making it to week 7. Isn't it amazing how time flies, but I'm sure some days not as quickly as others. You sound thrilled to be where you are right now. Good for you!!!! I look forward to seeing your pictures when you post the before and after. Glad to hear Dr. T. did not break his wrist. Although broken ribs would be terribly painful, I am sure he would miss his wrist a tad more. It sure is better news for patients like me waiting for surgery. (How selfish of me!!) Thanks for the info Rina, and keep in touch, my thoughts are with you!! Cathy - In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " Rina " <rinabhagat80@h...> wrote: > Hi Cathy, > I'm doing a lot better now. Guest guest
Hi Cathy ( & ) Yes it was good that it was ribs, but im sure ribs are much more painful then walking with 3 broken ribs. However he's surely dedicated to his work and was back at it pretty soon, and although I know it backlogged and pushed back a lot of surgeries, getting a date with him was very hit and miss regardless. You're right 7 weeks I can't believe it. 49 days. Wow I remember the first few days, each day would go by so excruciatingly slow. I'd sit and wonder when things might resemble semi normal again. Now that I look back it certainly wasn't easy but I'm glad the days go by faster and its unbelievable that it's already been 7 weeks. Only a few more to go and these darn elastics come off. Can't wait! Actually the next milestone for me is the day I can open my mouth more than a pinky finger! Thanks guys for the support, and Cathy don't worry you'll be on the other side pretty soon! Pictures will follow soon, I just want this unproportionate swelling to go away. It's one of the memories I definitely want to forget so taking a picture looking like this will be painful reminder. I know swelling is temporary and I've adapted to the way I look, it's just not a true representation of before and after, so I think I'll wait just a bit longer. Guest guest
Hi Rina, It seems like yesterday I joined these sites, but it must be going on two years. Time sure has away of passing. Soon we will be in July and your elastics will be off and you will closer to normal only better!!! I remember you having difficulty putting on the elastics. You must be an old pro by now. I am sorry I wasn't any help to you. Are you having an easy time eating? I imagine you must have progressed to some soft foods. Maybe I am wrong? I remember you saying you lost a lot of weight and you were tiny to start with. I hope that has levelled off for you. Just think the worse it over, you must be so relieved! Thinking of you Rina, Cathy > > > > Hi Rina, > > > > how are you doing? I am wondering if you have seen Dr. T. > > lately. > > > > How is he since the accident? Guest guest
Hi Cathy, Just got back from week 7 post op visit w/ Dr T. He said everything is coming along well and there's no infection (ALWAYS A BIG RELIEF TO HEAR!) He said the bite is still a bit off but it's nothing that my ortho won't be able to touch up. As for opening my mouth he said once the jaws are used a bit more the opening will start to come back, then he put his thumb inbetween and forced my mouth open OUCH!!! The reason was to show me that I was still capable of opening and I had nothing to worry about. He also said I could do that to myself, hah as if. It is a comfort going in and seeing either him or my ortho every few days, maybe its a blessing I can't change my elastics. I see my ortho on Thursday and Dr T said he'd leave it to the ortho to decide if he wanted to take out the elastics and if he thinks I should leave them in a bit longer, then Dr T will take them out at the 2 month mark which is in 2 more weeks. It was also amazing to go into his office and have NOONE waiting there. First time for everything I guess. Every other time I've been in there for the last 2-3 years now his waiting room is ALWAYS full. And it's a pretty big room. Now I can start counting down the days till the elastics come off and maybe I can start talking normally again! Off for my massage appointment, it's done wonders for my swelling. If only it was permanent relief! :-( Take care! Rina > > > > > > > Hi Rina, > > > > > > > how are you doing? Guest guest
Hi Rina, What great news for you!!! It would be strange I am sure to get to Dr. T. office and see an empty room. I was there only once for my consult in Jan of 2004. Although I got to the building before it opened, it didn't take too long for the room to fill up. One thing I remember about the consult was the time he took, not rushing me in and out, allowing me ample opportunity to ask him any questions. Maybe its a good thing he forced your mouth open. It's something I probably would not attempt on my own for the first time. At least you know its OK. I would bet most patients are leary about attempting that on their own for the first time. Nice to know you are infection free and that your bite is fine after minor tuning by the ortho ( I read most people have to have these adjustments following surgery. Seems the bite is usually off somewhat). Only a few short weeks and you will be free!! Have a nice weekend Rina, and enjoy your massage.
