Guest guest
Hello Whitney, When I visited a nutritionalist a fews months back, he gave me a pamplet on GlycoTrol. It looked interesting for what you may need. There is a ph number as well 1- and a store locator on their website.. www.lidtke.com It is a capsule taken before meals to help the blook sugar I believe. I am just starting the SCD diet for others Crohns. Hope this helps, Steve To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sat, June 26, 2010 10:40:01 PMSubject: adrenal help Hi everyone :)I've been on SCD about 6 months and lots of things have been improving including regularity, less hiatal hernia problems, improved absorption, much needed weight-gain, etc.however, i think my adrenals and blood sugar (hypoglycemia) are getting worse. my main symptom is shakey-ness and agitation. i also get tired a lot. anyway, i had a few questions about how to help my adrenals, which i think will help my blood sugar.1. Is ginseng legal? looking at past emails it seems like some people took it, but when i emailed i think it was freeda vitamins they said they dont think their gingseng supplement is legal. but they could just be saying that cause they're not sure. ?2. How can i keep my blood sugar from dropping, usually 1.5-2 hrs after a full meal and then it rises back up on its own within the next hour? this is reactive-hypo from what i understand. right now i eat about 2-3 oz meat, 2 cups cooked veg, and 3-4 tbs fat per meal. no fruit or sugary things like that...3. Anything else i could or do take to help heal the adrenals? I'm 25 so tonight i'm feeling sorry for myself that i have adrenal issues, haha but i know it's sometimes part of celiac diseaseThank you for any advice!! you guys have taught me so much already :)Whitney
Guest guest
Hey :)I wrangled with very bad adrenal problems for years, still recovering. It's very important to stop stressing them, that's the first, i.e. lose the caffeine, alcohol, chlorine, present and past emotional stresses, other toxins, honey, etc. then, detox/cleanse them (SCD legally of course)then rebuild them and support/nourishcoconut oil, 1 tbsp daily basic recommendation is a great general stabilizer for adrenalsnothing I ever did helped remotely as much as when I really sat down carefully and went over the kidney/adrenal complex chapter in Healing With Whole Foods by Pitchford. I realized the recommendations my doctors gave me actually counterindicated with the symptoms I had for my particular adrenal dysfunction according to chinese medicine. I sorted that out and followed SCD legal recommendations, largely putting herbs (ginger etc.) too spicy for me to swallow under my tongue and leaving them for awhile, then frequently repeating. This had extremely beneficial effect on me. Also, it's important to make sure you are getting enough rest and sleep, and to be careful with your potassium/sodium balancing, being sensitive to where your body is with that.Best wishes!! Guest guest
oh, and for great guidance on removing those stressors from your adrenals, there is an excellent book called A Life Worth Breathing by Max Strom. I _highly_ recommend it :)best! Hey :)I wrangled with very bad adrenal problems for years, still recovering. Guest guest
Hi Whitney,I wrote out what worked for me for adrenal fatigue here: http://www.scdkat.com/2010/03/scd-and-gaps-foods-for-adrenal-fatigue/ Early on, the shakiness and agitation I felt seemed to be helped by taking extra minerals. The SCD legal multivitamin and B vitamins didn't help, but a liquid mineral supplement I got at a health food stores really made a difference. Might be worth trying to find a legal multi-mineral, or at least one with calcium, magnesium, zinc. I always did calcium:magnesium in a 1:1 ratio because we get a lot of calcium in broth and yogurt. Guest guest
Whitney Adrenal fatigue is common when you are dealing with a chronic illness. You may find that time on SCD will “cure” the adrenals without needing anything else. However, you may also need to adjust your food choices, and make sure you are getting plenty of minerals, especially salt and other electrolytes. I have to boost my electrolytes all the time, to avoid shakiness and other low-electrolyte symptoms. Another strategy that helps is to eat small meals more often, so that your body will be constantly refueled. The smaller meals also helps with hypoglycemia. I deal with this as well, although my blood sugar levels tend to drop closer to 3 hours after a meal, since my stomach empties abnormally slow (gastroparesis). And I’ve learned that too many carbs at a meal can trigger a more severe drop in my blood glucose levels, so it is a balancing act throughout the day. Eating something every 2.5 to 3 hours helps keep my blood sugar levels more stable so I don’t fall into hypoglycema. But I also had to experiment a bit over the first two years on SCD to figure out what foods I should eat, in what combination, and at what time of day. I used my blood glucose meter a lot during the first two years on SCD; now I only use it once in a while, when I develop symptoms and am not sure if it is hypoglycemia or low electrolytes (sometimes can’t tell!) I usually make a normal sized meal, but eat in two parts. Lunch is the most important meal for my body, I have to eat more lightly in the morning and again at night (my GI symptoms at their worst in the morning and night). I don’t eat much fruit, just one or two servings per day, always eaten with a good mix of carbs and proteins. I usually have 3 cups of cooked veggies with each meal, along with 3 oz. of protein; but remember that I eat it in two parts, so there is the right balance of carbs and proteins for my metabolism each snack/meal. My GI won’t tolerate fats in the usual manner, but I do manage to sneak in a small amount throughout the day and I often have a spoonful of peanut butter in applesauce as my late-afternoon snack. Ginseng as a supplement probably won’t be legal. Herbs used as a spice are OK, herbs used in a supplement can be problematic for our digestions. Kim M. Guest guest
Have you had your adrenals tested? I thought I had an adrenal fatigue problem, and did the saliva test. Turns out, my adrenals are just fine! Something else, probably thyroid, is the root of my troubles. But if you do have adrenal issues, I've read that consuming lots of sea salt and b vitamins are good. There is also an adrenal fatigue group you can check out at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ .
