Guest guest
actually had both plagio and brachy (he's pictured in his brachy helmet). He was diagnosed with both at 2 months old by our pediatrician. It started in-utero, which has made this journey a little more longer and difficult for us. We first tried repositioning, but after a month went by with no results, we brought him to Cranial Tech. I'm so glad our ped referred us to them and never gave us the whole " it will round out on its own " talk. When we first brought him to Cranial Tech, he measured at 15mm off (right at the cutoff between moderate and severe) and his brachy was at 99%. He wore the first helmet for about 3 and a half months. We were happy with how much his head improved, but we knew it could get better, so we opted for a 2nd band, which they made geared more towards the brachy (the one in the photo). While that band did great things for his brachy in just a month, I noticed that it wasn't doing much for his plagio. When I let the clinician know this, they decided to make him a new 3rd band for free, which would look more like the first one which was geared more for the plagio (although it helped with the brachy too). So had 3 helmets overall and he was in them for a little over 7 months all together. He just graduated a few weeks ago and we are so happy with the results. His head isn't perfect, but compared to how it used to look, it's a DRASTIC change for the better!. His head now measures at 6mm off even though it looks totally rounded in the back. I think the 6mm is due to the actual side (not the side in the back, but the actual side where his ear is) bulging out a bit more than the other side. His brachy is now at 87%. I really hate numbers, because I think his head LOOKS a lot better than it sounds! His ears were pretty uneven before, and now they are aligned. Also his facial asymmetry has gotten better. I've been so busy lately so I haven't posted his final before and after photos, but I will right now. You will find them under " Our Plagio Babies O-P " (I'm pretty sure it's O-P at least! Just look for ). Anyways, this group has been a lot of help. I haven't posted a whole bunch, although I did have concerns about his crooked jaw a little while back. His jaw actually seems to have corrected itself, so I am happy for that! I am sooo happy we decided to band. I know for a fact, based on his severity and the fact that it started in-utero, that it would have never corrected itself. He started the helmet when he was a little under 4 months old, and even though we started early, it was still a challenge. So to any new members of the group who's baby's plagio/brachy started in-utero and you're on the fence as to what to do... Get the helmet!!! Trust me! I am so happy we did, and I know my son will thank me later for it! Hope everyone's babies are doing well, and I wish everyone the best! - (Mommy to , born 11-18-08, Doc Band Grad 10/09) > > Hi Everyone- > Please welcome our newest Front Page Star...OMAR! > > If 's mom is still with us, please share his brachy story with the group. Guest guest
Wow - I see substantial improvement. Most of the head height is gone and I can't see any asymmetry anymore from the top view. Congratulations. Re: New Front Page Star ....OMAR!!! I totally forgot to post the pictures after that message! Anyways, they're up now! I think his head looks much better in person (he wasn't liking getting the photos taken so he was squirming/tilting his head a lot). -> >> > Hi Everyone-> > Please welcome our newest Front Page Star...OMAR!> > > > If 's mom is still with us, please share his brachy story with the group. Guest guest
He looks great. Thanks for sharing his story. It seems like it was worth all the time spent in those bands. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > > > Hi Everyone- > > Please welcome our newest Front Page Star...OMAR! > > > > If 's mom is still with us, please share his brachy story with the group.
