Guest guest
Bethany, you certainly did nothing wrong by having to miss work due to horrendous pain and other complicaations. You must come first, or you will be setting yourself up for more illness. When I went past my endurance at work a few years ago, I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, which caused me to be fired in my new job. Please do only as muchas you can, as you are still recovering and school and your health come first. Best wishes and God bless. Guest guest
Bethany - you have been upfront from the beginning. If you were missing work because you wanted to hang with your friends, that's one thing, but you have good reasons why you missed. You have been honest with your employer, so go in with your head held high. Your health is more important than anything. Sometimes you just get sick. I know that I have been really embarassed when I was a new employee and was sick, but sometimes there is just nothing you can do about it. Hopefully, they can be more understanding or you can find a job where the employer has more compassion for a valuable employee. Congratulations on your progress! Guest guest
Well I really feel for you. I understand also. Let me explain. In november 2003. The month before my operation. I got very ill with a infection which started in my ears and reached my throat and Stomach. I was forced to goto the hospital. While at the hospital I called my employer of 5 years and informed them I would be unable to make it in. I called three hours before my shift. When I got home I had a message on my machine not to return to work. I was fired. They fired me even though I had been wrote off for three days by the doctor. I was running 103 fever and all the other fun stuff. Not to mention it was one month before my operation. So I was unable to find a job that could only use me one month and let me off for 6 weeks. Anywy,Money got low and unemployment was not paid to me. My exemployer said I quite and was not fired. So between Nov 2003 and Feb 2004 I was unemployed and unable to pay bills. My wife had insurance that paid my operation. We lost our brand new car. We lost our apartment. We had to sell all our belongings to make it. Things were bad. Then during this time my incision busted. That is why I was on medical leave so long. I tried to get any assitance from the government. None was given. Now Today I am Glad to say God has blessed us so much. My health is GREAT. I have a great job making double what I was making. A nice home. Also plans to be debt free in one year. So even though things got so bad. God turned it around and used it for our good. So hang in there and remember no matter what is must get better at some point! I will be praying for you. Guest guest
Bethany: Who are your evaluations submitted to? I would contact that office to talk with someone. Also another option would be to contact either the Human Resources (personnel) Office, the Vice President for Student Affairs, or the Financial Aid Office (or the office who administers your work study program). It sounds to me as if you followed the proper procedures. Good luck - and take care of yourself. The stress you are under could be adding to the migraines. Robin Message: 18 Date: Mon, 02 Aug 2004 02:17:12 -0000 Subject: Anyone had this happen? I am a college student and in April received a student worker position at the conference center at my school. Upon interviewing I was honest and explained the STRONG possibility of me having surgery during the summer in which I would be out of work for 4-6 weeks. They thanked me for being up front and honest and hired me for 15-20 hours per week. Well, I was gone after surgery for 5 weeks due to dizziness and other side effects. When I returned to work, my boss and her assistant began haggling me and telling me that I was not 100% and not to come back until I could give 110%. Well, most of you know that we have setbacks, complications, and possible sickness from time to time and especially after surgery we need to let our bodies adjust. Recently I have been getting migraines, mostly in the last three weeks. I went to work with these migraines and worked 25 hours per week. They wanted more and more and more. I kept going to work with horrible migraines because the animosity was apparent since my surgery. Has this happened to anyone else? Due to my complications with migraines, tmj, and grinding my teeth I was forced to have emergency appointments thursday and friday, thus missing work due to excrutiating pain. My bosses said that they need to rethink my position because I missed two days with doctors notes. I am going to work tomorrow morning for the big GRILL session. Has anyone had this situation at work? How did you resolve it? I had an evaluation last week and they told me that I am efficient, accurate, and more productive than any other student worker they have ever had. They told me that since I had surgery that it was a problem and was reflected in my evaluation. I know that this is just a part-time job and that I am a student and need to really remain focused on my health and school, I am just frustrated and scared to face them tomorrow. I guess that I just need to be reassured that I did nothing wrong by missing work for surgery and emergency appointments. Anyone with comments please help me and my nerves! Guest guest
Bethany, You should not feel bad about any of your actions. When you go in there, I would make that known to them. You just had MAJOR surgery and complications do happen, as with any surgery. So would they be giving you this much trouble of you had had open heart surgery and went back for complications? I don't think so. So hang your head up high and tell them that problems do arise and that while you are sorry that this is happening, it is a fact you cannot change and while you enjoy your job, your health is always going to come first and you hope that they wouldn't expect it any other way!! Best of luck to you!! Tina > I am a college student and in April received a student worker > position at the conference center at my school.
