Guest guest
Terry Thanks for sending the link to the Wikipedia article; I knew one of the two bacterial strains used in yogurt was usually destroyed in the stomach but couldn’t remember if it was S. Thermophilus or L. Bulgaricus. However, if your son has a sensitivity to Streptococcus then you should probably avoid the yogurt starters that include S. Thermophilus. Note the phrase in the Wikipedia article “..does not survive the stomach in healthy humans”. Healthy being the keyword. Many of us using SCD are not considered “healthy” until our gut ecology is completely restored. And since your son has no immunity for strep, then it is probably better to find a yogurt starter without it. I’ve seen posts from some folks who still make yogurt but also need to avoid S. Thermophilus. I can’t recall what they used as a starter, though. Hopefully others will reply to your question and give you some suggestions. And you might just use a probiotic supplement instead of making yogurt. I take a L. Acidophilus supplement because my body no longer tolerates anything dairy, and I healed just fine. Kim M. But I read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus_thermophilus<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus_thermophilus> and I interpret this to mean that the strep helps to ferment the milk but is destroyed in the stomach. What do you think? Terry
