Guest guest
Connie makes a good point; I noticed the same thing with my bill, although it was even worse! In fact, I was pretty horrified when I realize how big insurance discounts really are. For instance: My hospital bill: $48,000 (unreal) Insurance paid: $15,000 Surgeon's bill: $35,000 Insurance paid: $15,000 Antesthesilogist: $10,000 Insurance paid: $2,000 So, basically had my insurance NOT covered this surgery, I would be nearly 100K in debt right now, yet they only paid $32K. It's unbelievable the difference it makes, and it's SO unfair to those who do not have coverage. I agree with Connie, if you can't get this covered, at least advocate for the price that insurance pays (which is considered fair and reasonable). I never would have been able to afford this without insurance. I was only in the hospital for three nights --- that bill floored me. Good luck to all! > Hi all, > > Just received my hospital bill yesterday. It's been submitted to United Healthcare so nothing has been paid yet. I still have to get the bill from the doctors, too. > > Total Charges $26,606 > Account Adjustments $19,575.80 > Insurance Claims Outstanding $7,030.25 > > What kind of deal is that! The insurance company, because of its contract with the hospital they get almost a $20,000 break?!?!? > > If someone out there DOESN " T have insurance I would HIGHLY recommend bargaining with the hospital. If they will give a company that they have to haggle with such a break, surely they could do a severe cash discount to an individual. > > Hugs, Connie > > >
Guest guest
Wow! I was in the hospital 4 nights, haven't gotten my statement yet...but am SO glad I had insurance and that they approved my surgery. A person needs coverage for this type of surgery because it's not cheap obviously. I'm really curious to see my itemization of charges now.
