Guest guest
I'm a bit discouraged and I wanted everyone's opinion. My 15 year old daughter who has celiac disease has been on SCD for almost 2 years. She was put on the diet by our nutritionist because a test showed that she had an overgrowth of d-lactate bacteria in her gut. We just re-did the test to see where her levels are at after 2 years and they haven't changed. It went from a 5.5 to a 5.2. Just wondered if this has happened to any of you. It's very discouraging when the reason you were put on the diet was possibly not even the reason to be put on the diet. Please give me insight and feedback. Marla P. Well, since they list raw avos as something you can eat at Stage 2, which is VERY limited, I would think it would be pretty easy to digest. I love them and have no problems with them - I'm kind of stage 2 and trying some stage 3. Here is where I get my organic avos - free shipping and they are always good and not sometimes a big disappointment, like some of the ones in the store. http://organicavoca do.net/dpage. php?page_ id=1 kt >> > Is raw (florida hass) avocado hard to digest?> > karianne>
Guest guest
Marla, What probiotic strains/yogurt strains are you using? I am assuming your nutritionist told you about how this can affect D-lactate levels? Guest guest
Hi Marla, How is your daughter feeling? One thing I learned from GI docs that when it comes to IBD issues one can't just look at the test results and paperwork... Has she gotten better at all? For instance my Good bacteria levels on paper are pathetic but I have slowly gotten better.. I still have flares but they are not long lasting and not nearly as severe. I'm sad you feel so discouraged, but I think that is part of the healing process kind of learning the ins and out and inner minutia. Guest guest
We are using saccramyces boulaardi for probiotic and aren't doing yogurt right now. Please tell me a little bit more of what you mean about the probitoc. Marla P. Guest guest
Hi Marla, Some strains of bacteria are D-lactate free, others are not. The only D-lactate free strains I know of are in SCD-illegal probiotics, such as Culturelle, Align, and D-lactate free Custom Probiotics blend. I suspect all bifidus is D-lactate free, but it is SCD-illegal. I believe the idea is to switch the balance from the D-lactate producers to the non-producers, but tough to do with SCD-legal probiotics. I looked into this when my daughter's issues were not improving on SCD (not that I have confirmed that her issues stem from D-lactate, I now believe they are oxalate issues). There is much to be learned about D-lactate from the CFS (Chronic Fatigue)community. Guest guest
Here's a question I'm not sure anyone would know. Could a high level of d-lactate in a person's gut cause constant dizziness/faint feeling? We're still dealing with this with my daughter. She is now 2 weeks off of Lexapro. The whole thing started in April when I first lowered the lexapro. - then the dizziness started. We then bumped it back up and left it there.Still dizzy. We finally started the weaning process again in June and she's now totally off for 2 weeks. She's having cranial/sacral massages done at the chiro office. and physical therapy for VOR - a vestibular occular reflex - where her brain and eyes aren't moving together , so you do eye exercises. This has been a long summer with seeing doctors, having tests run, and still not better. I did want to mention The Road Back website for people getting off of anxiety/depression meds. It's been really helpful. If anyone has any advice for me, I'd welcome it. School starts in 3 weeks and we're praying she'll feel better by then. I feel like we've exhausted all resources - seen medical doctors, ran medical tests and natural tests thru nutritionist, on tons of supplements, etc. Marla P. Guest guest
Marla, I suspect chronic fatigue sufferers would answer with a resounding " yes " ! > > > > > > > > > > > > Is raw (florida hass) avocado hard to digest? > > > > > > > > karianne > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
It's been a long 2 years. But I do think this diet has helped her. The gluten free diet wasn't good for her. Too much sugars and garbage in a lot of gf products. She has colon spasms at times. But I do think she's better than before - GI-wise. She just got off of lexapro which she's been on for 4 years. for anxiety. I keep hearing that it slows down your system so even with her stomach, maybe some of her gas problems this past year was from being on the lexapro. Who knows. Thanks for the encouraging word. My husband, daughter and I have been disheartened by the test results. She was put on this diet because of the high d-lactate numbers and we finally get her re-tested to see where her levels are at , 2 years later. and they are basically the same. So, thanks. Marla P.
