I would not recommend eating ANY illegals on SCD. It would ruin any progress

that you made over the past 7 months. Why undo all this hard work? For SCD to

work- you need to adhere to it. This episode of gastritis may be just a blip on

the road to improvement.

Try sipping peppermint tea with a little honey to settle your stomach. You are

also eating a ton of fruit- maybe that is too much as we are not supposed to eat

things in excess. There are other ways to get carbs- honey, nuts, and the

starchier vegetables like squash. Cooked applesauce and pears together is a nice

higher carb treat. Make some SCD " ice cream " .

But on the other hand, since I have been eating alot of fruits to get my carbs ( 5 oranges, 4 apples everyday and some other fruits too),That is a LOT of fruit. Can't you just eat less fruit rather than find something to neutralize it? And it might not necessarily be the acid in the fruit that's causing problems, it could just be too much sugar. Hi Ozgur,

I am sorry to hear that you aren't feeling very well. I agree with the others

that

your fruit consumption is VERY high. I feel that that amount of fruit would even

cause problems for people without IBD.

I think the whole emphasis is our society on getting enough carbs is overrated.

My healing has accelerated rapidly since I restricted my carbs to 75 g a day as

suggested in the book 'Life without Bread.' The author found that by

restricting total carb intake, IBD patients went into remission. This has been

my

experience.

I also feel that the weight charts that most physicians have are inflated. I

know that

many here are genuinely underweight (I myself am borderline) but I try not to

obsess too much about carbs to help gain weight. As far as I'm concerned the

carbs

aren't benefiting me if they are causing malabsorption and a worsening of

symptoms.

Many here are very vocal about SCD not being a low carb diet and there being no

need to restrict carbs. I respectfully disagree since I feel that many of us are

so sick

that we do need to tweak the diet according to what helps us. Not everyone here

may

need sensible carb restriction but many of us do (especially those fighting

candida

and parasites). I have to add that restricting carbs has been very difficult for

me but

it does work. Dates are my downfall on some challenging days :) and I crave them

the most around my period.

My advice would be to cut down on carbs and get good wholesome sources of

fats and protein. Also try cutting out citrus and seeing if you do better with

other

fruits. Some people have a hard time with citrus.

I can guarantee that reducing your carb intake will help tremendously. Give it a

try

for 4-5 days as an experiment.

I really hope you feel better. Keep us posted.

Thank you very much , PJ and Alyssa..

Even though the war on colon front seems well doing, I am stil slightly

underweight and that is why I was trying to get some carbs via excessive fruits

and lentils.

(I have just read that gastritis or peptic ulcers also cause

weight loss..)

Regarding fat and proteins, I try to have have them daily via

fish or meat..

As you all suggested, I will try to replace orange (especially

none seasonal) and apple with some honey, cooked applesauce/pear and nuts..

But as we all feel, there is a huge pressure from environment

and doctors telling me to forget SCD and eat bread… : )

HI Ozgur,

I too am underweight. Today I started my day with a smoothie with 1/2 glass

legal grape juice,1/2 water, 1 banana, 1/2 avocado and ice cubes all mixed in

the blender.

I work in a hospital and just went to the cafeteria for a couple of hard boiled

eggs which I will have with a ripe banana I brought from home for a snack at

about 10:30. I also got a cup of tea with honey.

Lunch is some chicken with cooked butternut squash and carrots with ghee and

coconut oil. I also have a 1/2 an avocado to go with that.

When I get home I might have a grape " soda " with mineral water and grape juice

which I love.

I also have homemade grape jello to have as a snack in the afternoon.

So today I will have 2 bananas, grape juice,a little honey and the cooked

veggies for my carbs. For dinner I will have chicken soup that I am cooking all

day in a crock pot with carrots, zuccini and probably another1/2 avocado.

I think that today I will have plenty of carbs that are legal without having too

much fruit.

Hope this helps,

June

Even though the war on colon front seems well doing, I am stil slightly underweight and that is why I was trying to get some carbs via excessive fruits and lentils. What helped me gain more than anything was cheese, butter, and nut butter. Too much fruit usually makes my symptoms worse, especially raw, so if you can tolerate maybe some extra veggies with cheese and butter or a nut butter muffin you could try adding those to gain weight. ozgur, that sounds like way too much fruit of one kind to me, try mixing it up with berries, bananas, kiwi, all very east to digest, and loaded with good carbs.I have a giant fruit salad every morning with banana, bluberries, strawberries, kiwi, razzberries, cherries, (whatever is in season) mixed with DCCC, goat yogurt, honey, coconut oil, and chopped fresh mint. this has been my breakfast almost every day for the past 12 years, though i originally started with only DCCC, yogurt, and bluberries for quite a long time in the beginning stages of my recovery.best Stevecd 1973scd1998

Hi Ozgur--

Unfortunately all of the things you mentioned are illegal and will undo the wonderful results you have worked so hard for.

I suggest you try drinking a solution of baking soda ( which is legal) and water to neutralize the acid in your stomach. It's old-fashioned, but it works and is legal. It calms down acid upset stomach.

It calms down acid upset stomach.Ah yikes! I think more often than not, heartburn and other similar discomforts are caused by lack of stomach acid rather than too much. I think only a small percentage of people actually produce enough stomach acid, and an even smaller percentage produce too much. I would be cautious with this, and if at all possible, just try eating less fruit if you feel that causes your discomfort. I read all about stomach acid in the book Green for Life, but I can't site any specific studies right now. If you want me to I can go find the book and type up some passages. Fruits are not acidic; they are alkaline. You could try digestive enzyymes or

papaya extract (if you can find a legal one).

On the www.pecanbread.com website under Supplements, they have a list of legal

digestive enzymes: http://pecanbread.com/p/enzymes1.html

Scroll down on this page to view acidic and alkaline foods:

Ozgur,

However delicious, it sounds like you are ingesting one heck of a lot

of fruit, and particularly citrus. I think that would be a lot for

many people without gut troubles. The only person I know who can eat

fruit like that is my DH, but he apparently has a stainless steel

gut. So I will third, fourth, or fifth the suggestioin that you cut

fruit back a bit, maybe cut the citrus way back and try more bananas

and berries, instead.
