Hi , welcome! :) I recently joined the group and I will be

having upper and lower jaw surgery in about a year (overbite/open

bite). Nerves are natural, but it'll be so worth it. We're here for

you :) How long has this process been for you?

Hey Joanne-

Thanks for the support. When I was in third grade, I had braces on

for about a year to fix an open bite. As I got older, I guess my

upper jaw wasn't growing as fast as my lower jaw, causing me to have

an underbite. At that time, my ortho wanted to wait until my jaws

stopped growing to put the braces back on me. He must have taken x-

rays on me for years. Finally, with no progression since the day I

had gotten my braces off back in third grade, my mom decided that it

was time for us to try someone new. We went to this other

orthodontist that I am currently at right now, and they've been

great the whole time. I've had my braces on since May 2003 to

prepare me for the surgery, so it's been about a 2 year process, not

including the long, long wait with the other orthodontist.

Hopefully though, the wait will be worth it. Maybe I'll finally be

able to bite into a sandwich without pulling the lettuce out with my

teeth because my teeth currently are unable to bite down on things

such as lettuce!

,

Best of luck!! I had surgery on June 6th so by the time you go in for

surgery I'll be exactly a month ahead of you in terms of recovery and

hopefully will be able to provide you with some useful pointers, just

as all the other members on this board can. More importantly, we're all

here to offer you our support!
