Guest guest
Hi All, Yesterday I saw the plastic surgeon who will do my TT along with my second surgeon who will repair another hernia that came back after my revision last May. I knew that the chances of the hernia coming back were 50/50 so that's OK. My question to everyone is, when the 1st RNY failed due to SLD (12 rows failed),could this be the fault of the original surgeon who did not do this correctly? or the staple gun itself that failed to secure the stomach? Has anyone ever explored any responsibility for this happening? I know that SLD is common and revisions are done, but should someone be held accountable? Also, I am having severe back problems which I see a neurologist for. Could the size of the hernia (which is HUGE) have any effect on the pain in my back? Shots aren't helping. Pain meds work minimally unless I want to take enough to get higher than a kite. I am totally unable to sit for any length of time. Disability is denying me and I am at wits ends here. Any help would be totally appreciated. Thank you, Cheri MagicCheri@...
Guest guest
Probably not. I had a SLD, too, and a very nice surgeon explained to me that sometimes the stomach tissue just rejects the staples. If you think about it, the body is doing what it's supposed to...rejecting a foreign object. The only issue I have with surgeons who don't transect is that this happens all too often. If patients are really so unsure about any type of bypass surgery that may want the surgery to be reversed in the future, they should opt for a less invasive procedure, like the Lapband, and the surgeons should make sure the patient understands this, and help them chose their type of surgery accordingly. in NJ ********************* > > My question to everyone is, when the 1st RNY failed due to SLD (12 rows failed),could this be the fault of the original surgeon who did not do this correctly? or the staple gun itself that failed to secure the stomach?
